LEST YOUR HEARTS BE WEIGHED DOWN

"BUT TAKE HEED TO YOURSELVES, LEST YOUR HEARTS BE WEIGHED DOWN WITH CAROUSING, DRUNKENNESS, AND CARES OF THIS LIFE, and that Day come on you unexpectedly."
Luke 21:34 (NKJV)

A believer is admonished to take heed to himself or herself that their hearts might not be weighed down with carousing or surfeiting—an intemperate or immoderate indulgence in food or
drinking, and cares of this life—that they might not be caught unaware about the coming of the Lord, Christ Jesus.

Those who have the hope of Jesus' coming live their daily lives as If that was their last day on the earth.

Note:
a. Whoever is expectant of His coming would not be living in habitual sins.
b. Such would be circumspect, build intimacy with God through the Holy Spirit, and allow the character defects in him or her to be corrected by God.

A believer who indulges his or her flesh, living in sins secretly does not have any hope of Jesus' coming. Whoever did have hope would keep himself or herself from being contaminated or soiled with sins:
2 BELOVED, NOW WE ARE CHILDREN OF GOD; AND IT HAS NOT YET BEEN REVEALED WHAT WE SHALL BE, BUT WE KNOW THAT WHEN HE IS REVEALED, WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM, FOR WE SHALL SEE HIM AS HE IS. 3 AND EVERYONE WHO HAS THIS HOPE IN HIM PURIFIES HIMSELF, JUST AS HE IS PURE" (1 John 3:2,3 NKJV).

Keeping yourself for the coming of the Lord is what you consciously pay attention to; you flee from every appearance of evil: 18 WE KNOW THAT WHOEVER IS BORN OF GOD DOES NOT SIN; BUT HE WHO HAS BEEN BORN OF GOD KEEPS [guards] HIMSELF, AND THE WICKED ONE [the devil] DOES NOT TOUCH HIM.19 WE KNOW THAT WE ARE OF GOD, AND THE WHOLE WORLD LIES UNDER THE SWAY OF THE WICKED ONE" (1 John 5:17,18 NKJV).

The whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one, the devil, means: the prince of the power of the air—a first in rank or power, chief magistrate prince ruler of the air, which is either the devil himself or one of his lieutenants—works in the lives of the unbelievers and the believers who are not walking in the spirit, to rebel against or disobey God and live contrary to His Word (Ephesians 2:1-3).

So, if you are not circumspect, or walking in the light of the Word of God, you would be among those who are under the sway of the wicked one—the prince of the power of the air (Ephesians 2:2,3).

Thus, live right. Be holy in all your conduct (1 Peter 1:15,16).

Peace.
