"NOW ALL THESE THINGS HAPPENED TO THEM AS EXAMPLES, AND THEY WERE WRITTEN FOR OUR ADMONITION, upon whom the ends of the ages have come."
1 Corinthians 10:11 (NKJV)

Comment: In the verse no 5 of this Chapter 10 of 1 Corinthians, we are made to know that God was not well pleased with the people, the Israelites. What they did that made them perish in the wilderness were mentioned in the preceding verses to this; 1 Corinthians 10:6-10. This verse in our text says, all the things that happened to them are for our examples, and they were written for our admonition; cautionary advice or warning, upon or for we whom the ends of the ages have come (1 Corinthians 10:11).

Believers read and study the Bible to learn how to walk with God. We get to know Who God is; what He does like and what He does not, through the principles found in the Bible.
a. We learn vital lessons on how to relate with Him by studying and observing the lives of those who walked with Him, in their earthly journey.
b. We learn from those who succeeded, what made them succeed, and those who failed, what made them fail; that we might not repeat their mistakes. Thus, the admonition is: "THEREFORE LET HIM WHO THINKS HE STANDS TAKE HEED LEST HE FALL" (1 Corinthians 10:12 NKJV). You take heed or precautions by reading, studying, and pondering; and the practicing of the Word of God—the principles found in the Bible: "BUT WHEN YOU LOOK INTO GOD'S PERFECT LAW THAT SETS PEOPLE FREE, PAY ATTENTION TO IT. IF YOU DO WHAT IT SAYS, YOU WILL HAVE GOD'S BLESSING. NEVER JUST LISTEN TO HIS TEACHING AND FORGET WHAT YOU HEARD" (James 1:25 Easy-to-Read Version).
READ: Psalm 1:1-3; Joshua 1:8; James 1:22-25).
When you practice the Bible, that is, you live by its principles, you are taking heed or precautions that you might not make or repeat the mistakes of those who failed in their walk with God. Peace.
