“Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; for You render to each one according to his work.”
Psalm 62:12 (NKJV)

READ: Psalm 62:8–12; Romans 10:9–13

The Psalmist says to God belongs mercy, and He renders to each person according to his work. In other words, God is a merciful God but He renders to each individual person according
to what he does. It shows us that God is not partial in His dealings with people (Acts 10:34; Romans 2:11). You will be rewarded based on your deeds.

Although if your rewards were to be bad, you can plead for God’s mercy through Christ Jesus.

At times when evil or terrible things are happening, we tend to ask God questions: why did He permit or allow such things? Why did God not stop the evil that was coming? At times, some evil things that happen are according to the law of retribution; they are according to the work of the person, or according to the seed that had been sown. For the harvest of the evil work to be stopped or shortchanged, the mercy of God can be pleaded for through the
atonement of Christ Jesus (1 John 2:1,2).

“As a partridge that broods but does not hatch, so is he who gets riches, but not by right; it will leave him in the midst of his days, and at his end he will be a fool.”
Jeremiah 17:11 (NKJV)

God is merciful; however, He is also a God of justice. God will not act unjustly because He is merciful. Mercy of God would be made available, but justice would not be denied. However, whoever comes through Christ Jesus will not be denied mercy:

“FOR JUDGMENT IS WITHOUT MERCY TO THE ONE WHO HAS SHOWN NO MERCY. MERCY TRIUMPHS OVER
JUDGMENT.”
James 2:13 (NKJV)

9 THAT IF YOU CONFESS WITH YOUR MOUTH THE LORD JESUS AND BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART THAT GOD HAS
RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD, YOU WILL BE SAVED.
10 FOR WITH THE HEART ONE BELIEVES UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND WITH THE MOUTH CONFESSION IS MADE UNTO SALVATION.
12 FOR THERE IS NO DISTINCTION BETWEEN JEW AND GREEK, FOR THE SAME LORD OVER ALL IS RICH TO ALL WHO CALL UPON HIM.
13 FOR “WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED.”
Romans 10:9,10,12,13 (NKJV)

Re f l e c t :
• Are you currently going through something difficult?
• When life is hard, do you rely on the mercy of God, or do you try to earn your way through it?

Peace.
