Early Life
Hrithik Roshan is born in a family where film making and acting runs in the blood. So it was natural for him to have an inclination towards movies and in the process of making a film. Once, he was secretly filmed doing an impromptu dance at the age of 6. His short dance performance was then shown to the world in the 1980 movie 'Aasha' by his maternal grandfather who was also the producer and director of the movie. Post this incident, Hrithik was seen in few more movies, having screen presence only for few minutes. The primary reason to include him in movies directed by his father, Rakesh Roshan and his maternal grandfather was that, he was considered as the lucky mascot. His first and only speaking role as a child artiste came at the age of around 12-13, in the movie 'Bhagwan Dada'. After completing his graduation, he chose to concentrate on movies, turning down a master's degree scholarship for further studies in United States. To learn the art of film making right from scratch, Hrithik swept floors and then slowly progressed, taking more responsibilities. Gradually, he learnt camera work, story development, direction and editing. After gaining knowledge thoroughly, he received firsthand experience by assisting his dad on movies such as 'Khel' and 'Koyla'.

2000- 2002: Debut and Setback

Hrithik Roshan made a stellar debut in his father's movie 'Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai' in which he played a double role. The soul of the movie was Hrithik and he carried it exceptionally well. This role won him several awards. Although, more than his acting, his looks were to die for. His next movie was 'Fiza' which was saved from being a flop by another sparking performance by Hrithik. His last movie of the year was 'Mission Kashmir' where he again showed his acting prowess. In all three movies, he showed to the world of what he is made of – chiseled looks, style and superb acting. The period of 2000 to 2001 was termed as 'Hrithikmania' as he literally stormed into the Bollywood industry.

The year 2001 was mixed bag for Hrithik as his first movie of the year 'Yaadein' was a commercial failure. His next was multi starrer family drama 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' which went on to become one of the biggest hits and highest grossing moviesof 2001.

In the year 2002, Hrithik Roshan had three releases and all of them flopped at the box office. 'Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage' and 'Na Tum Jaano Na Hum' were big failures and his third, 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge!' achieved moderate success.

2003- 2010: Critical and Commercial Success

In early 2003, Hrithik was seen in the movie 'Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon' which was a disaster at the box office with critics writing off Hrithik. But, he took it as a motivation and aimed to perform well in future projects. In the same year, he was seen in his father's 'Koi… Mil Gaya', India's first science fiction movie, which was a runaway success at the box office. The movie won plenty of awards and also gave Hrithik a reason to cheer as he bagged two Filmfare awards for his performance.

In the year 2004, Hrithik Roshan's only release was the movie 'Lakshya'. His performance in the movie was praised but the movie did not fare well at the box office. A couple of years later, in 2006, he was again seen in his father's sequel to the superhit movie 'Koi… Mil Gaya', 'Krrish'. His performance as a super hero was again praised earning him a Filmfare award and the movie became one of the biggest hits and second highest grosser of 2006. Playing triple roles, Hrithik showed his acting supremacy, keeping up his gait and style in each of the three roles. Hrithik was then seen in 'Dhoom 2', sequel to the movie 'Dhoom'. The movie was a blockbuster and Hrithik received plenty of praise for his portrayal of a charming thief.

Hrithik was then seen in the period drama 'Jodhaa Akbar' in 2008 and once again his performance earned him critical praise. The movie went on to become a superhit earning in millions. In the subsequent year, Hrithik gave his first flop, 'Luck By Chance' after quite some time. In the year 2010, came Hrithik Roshan's multi-lingual project 'Kites'. The movie, due to its Spanish and English language, did not fare well at the Indian box office but, was received well by international audiences.

2011- Present: Acclaimed as a Star

Hrithik Roshan was then seen in much acclaimed 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' where his performance was perfect to the T. The movie was successful at the box office sweeping plenty of awards and grossing Rs. 1.53 Billion worldwide. In the year 2012, he was seen in a remake of the classic movie 'Agneepath' by the same name and broke all records of the first day opening collections. The movie was declared a blockbuster and went on to become one of the highest grossing Bollywood movies.

In the year 2013, he was seen in 'Krrish 3', the third installment in his father's super hero series. The movie was largely Hrithik's show and is worth a watch for his performance. Hrithik and Salman Khan war never seems to die. Salman's comment on his movie 'Guzaarish' irked the actor and he gave it back. Although, they seemed to have patched up but Hrithik's Bang Bang dare to Salman went unheeded which fuelled speculation about some trouble between the two actors.
Trouble in paradise finally came true when Sussanne walked out of their fourteen year marriage.
