Review ( spoiler !):
The opening sentence : "As the minutes of the sun and the sun subsides, the midday sky appears through the half-closed window - a little watery, and as if dripping, although the summer is fortified and shows no signs of submission "
Two friends, Zohra and Adibah, one of a family from Yemen, the second daughter of Holocaust survivors. Each with her parents, who are designed as their image. The story goes from 1959 to 1983. The background story is the abduction of Yemenite children. A case that has stirred up the country for many years and has not yet subsided. Kindly reveals the truth about the Holocaust despite her parents' attempts not to mention it . While silencing questions as a familiar pattern. Zohara's mother, is not prepared to console herself with the loss of her daughter. In the tension between the family experiences, the company develops into a glamorous and courteous class. The latch from the binding to the binding is the story that takes place in 1988, when Zohra travels with Yigal from Givat Ye'arim near Jerusalem to Haifa. In the process, we return to the past in a series of chapters from 1959 and points of time between the years of these years.
There is a good attempt to describe an Israeli reality in two periods, twenty-five years apart, a picture of Israeli life . The book is written in a rich language, full of associations and literary connections, creating a somewhat tedious reading that requires concentration. Very detailed writing with an emphasis on environmental descriptions, moods, hand movements and body posture. The plot progresses slowly under a relationship that develops between the two heroes Zohara and Yigal. As stated, the story extends between two dates 14.12.59 to 15.9.83. Between Ashkenazim and Yemenites, I am sorry for the blatant, between the story of the Yemenite children and the Holocaust survivors, deep within the Israeli rift. G.
O Journey from Moshav Givat Ye'arim in the Jerusalem Corridor to Haifa, from the Land of Israel to the State of Israel. Ignoring the absence of a Yemenite boy and girl with a pointed finger at the other side of the rift. I read in the book a heavy shadow of the possible connection between tribes.
Courteous and glamorous, representatives of the new generation, childhood friends, discover that the source of one's problem lies in the family of the other. The marriage of Zohara and Yair breaks down around the same gap. The chapter on marriage is called "What did he find in it?" Which expresses the approach of the kibbutz elite to the Yemenites, who, in their understanding, try to enter the back door of their community.
Yigal, a researcher who passed the Holocaust as a child, connected to Zohara through the investigation of the disappearance as a man's way of life . forgiveness? Bridging the past? Or the negation of the other possibility of connection?
In my reading I saw an attempt to present one of the Israeli rifts, which are known through two personal stories, stereotypical to my taste, and therefore less successful or perhaps less sophisticated.
Despite my sincere praise for the rich language, and for the ability to describe it, the reading is not interesting to me, nor has it added an unknown point to me. The drama that has been added in the last chapters has created a more interesting conclusion than the main parts of the book. The resulting message is neither optimistic nor compatible with my acquaintance with a different reality.
Disclosure : The book was delivered from the publisher in the hidden hope that it will be reviewed and before the production ends .
