Easter Eggs About the Easter Eggs [Ready Player One]

in #books6 years ago
¡Hello again Pals! We all know that we live in a year that the pop culture is everywhere and we all remember the “golden years” of this culture by watching movies, playing videogames, reading books... Today i'm going to remember a little bit about this culture with all from that list. You may ask ¿how are you going to do that? Well that's simple; I'm going to have a little help from Ready Player One.

But ¿what is Ready Player One? It's an awesome novel written by Ernest Cline in 2011 which is going to have it's own movie. The story get us inside the life of Owen Watts who live a ‘‘futurist’’ Columbus Ohio (2045 to be exactly). Expanding the context, his world is low on resources and there's a lot of wars everywhere so… ¿how can this people who's not fighting on wars disconnect of that world? With a futurist VR Videogame named: The Oasis.

But I'm not here to speak about the book itself, I'm going to speak about some references or Easter eggs that are mentioned in the book and some from the trailers to get you a little bit familiar with the mood of the novel… ¿ready spectator? Let's begin.

  • Second life

This is the soul of this magnificent piece of art. The name says everything about this simulator ¡You can have a second life here! You can be whatever you want in this game, from a human to a stud dragon with world war II scars… and then make your dreams come true (maybe)

  • Pac-Man and Ms.Pac-Man

Developed in 1980 and 1982 respectively when another game was the king of kings in the market, it's simple and addictive but you already know that… ¿right? BTW I can't get to the level 3

  • Space Invaders

¿Remember when I said that there was a king of kings while Pac-Man was in development? Well this baby was it, developed in 1978 this was the coolest videogame for people with hours and hours of fun before Pac-Man arrive

  • Adventure

Theres a funny story about this one. Back in time Atari did not give its developers permission to put their names in the credits of the videogame so that their competitors do not sign them, but there's this man Warren Robinett, a developer who puts his name in a secret room with his name. Atari sold the game without this knowledge so we can say this man invented the Easter Eggs

  • Back to the Future DeLorean

I'm not talking about a normal car ¡I'm talking about THE DeLorean! The one who McFly and Doc used in the Back to the Future movie, with the flow condenser and all the trick... Of course in the novel doesn't travel in time but it's the same car ¿ok?

  • Ultraman

Yeah, I'm talking about that 40mts alien super hero from that japanese tv show who can throw laser beams from his arms. Its one of the most important characters in the final war... But you have to read why ;)

    Source

  • Leopardon

Maybe you don't know who is Leopardon but that's why I'm here; Leopardon AKA the spiderzord, is the giant robot used by Spiderman to defeat his giant enemies... No I'm not joking, it really is Spiderman's giant robot (not the same Spiderman that you know) used in a japanese tv show and no, it's not a megazord, it's a Leopardon

    Source

  • MechaGodzilla

I'ts the same sexy dinosaur we all know but mecha ¿why not? As an invetion from ape shaped aliens from a black hole planet he has to be a destruction weapon on earth. It has an important appearance with Leopardon but as I said: You have to read why ;)

    Source
  • Voltron

Well technically it's not true, we can just see that there's all the mechas needed to make the powerful Voltron but ¿but why isn't Voltron then? The book has the answer

    Source
  • Dungeons and Dragons

Theres a lot of references to the D&D world that is not just literally mentioning the game, there's challenges, planets, maps, characters and weapons just based in the D&D world so if you are a fan probably you'll enjoy this

    Source

  • Of course there's a lot more of references like Bands, Music, Characters, Comics and more but I can't name all of them here because it's a huge experience to see how many referennces you can catch while you enjoy the story (and literally I can't... I'll probably be dead before naming them all) but there's a few. Now ¿did I mentioned that there's a lot of money and a race for the GREATEST easter egg in the novel? of course I'm talking about the plot of the novel just because I forget to talk about it a little before but wathever...

That's my A+ recommendation ¡Read ya later Pals!
