Novels on STEEM - a new trend?

in #books7 years ago (edited)

Wouldn't it be great if a fameous writer would choose to publish novels on steem? One chapter at the time?

I believe, that if such writers would publish some of their books on steem in small chapters - 1 each day or so not exeeding the 64000 characters per post of course - much value could be added and older people might get interested as well. .

Imagine if J.K. Rowling had used STEEM for publishing Harry Potter. Millions would immediately join just to follow her and read her stories.

So boys and Girls - If you know a good and well known writer - please encurage them to publish at least one of their books on steem - one chapter at the time - and lets see what will come out of it.

I will try to pursuade the ones I know, even though they are not very known.

I just had to add a comment more- because this idea is not meant to replace publishing of real paper books at all. No no no. I love books and love to read - and I more like saw it as a way to encurrage more young people to read good novels - also in paper form. But too many youngsters only see what they find on the internet - mostly technical or informal stuff that doesn't trigger the addiction to reading good stories. That was the intention, falling into the traps of the internet media myself by not leaving the post "until tomorrow" reading it a couple of times before publishing it. Sorry.

Yes and now. Certainly not J.K. Rowling. She gets millions for whatever she writes. With steem, even if very successful, it's a few thousands. Let's say a book has 20 chapters and each posting gets $500. That's $10.000 - great for a small writer, so we see that happening. But very bad deal for J.K. Rowling, so we will not see that in the near future ^^
Additionally, everyone can read for free what is being published on the steem blockchain. But only members with Steem Power can upvote.
A third factor might be, a posting can only be monetized for 7 days. After that there is no money to be made by the authors.

hmm I aggree to some extent - it is not easy to maintain income from publishing. But it could be a part of the story, that a certain reward should be reached before releasing the next chapter even though that is undermining the Idea a bit. As I see it, the worst hurdle is the 7 days limit - but perhaps the author needs to think of a special type of story, that fits into the model? I just thought it could make more young people read some more - not just articles from journalists that are always political in some way.

Indeed. I'm not familiar with what kind of novel-writing is currently being published at steemit, but I'm sure there are some creative guys already trying to utilize that 7-day story model you mention. It's definitely worth a try to play around with that a bit.

What an interesting idea! Once we enter a phase where there is a strong marketing push (perhaps when we are out of beta) can you imagine a famous author doing such? People would just start flooding in.

Yes! and they would be paid to read a good book. That would be a new one wouldn't it?
