Budapest Vacation
The City of Budapest was founded in 1873 after the cities of Buda, Pest and Obuda were merged.
The first settlements in this area were in the 4th Century BC. The Romans conquered the area and built a fortress on what is now Budapest.
Budapest is famous for many things, but most notably it's hot springs, which are frequented by locals and tourists, and thought to have many health benefits.
I had the opportunity of travelling there from Ireland in 2019. I stayed for just three days, but it was an amazing holiday.
Apart from my visit to the hot spring bath, I enjoyed visiting many wonderful sites across the city, such as Buda Castle, which overlooked the whole city from a large height.
Other notable sites to visit are the Hungarian Parliament, the Central Market Hall (lots of food here, including Paprika)
The local food in Budapest was also amazing. I tried the local food called Langos. Langos is a deep fried bread, covered with garlic and other toppings to make the taste wonderful.
Two notable places to visit if you love food are: The New York Cafe and Cafe Gerbaud. Both are quite expensive in comparison with most of the other restaurants and cafes, but their food is just amazing, so it is worth paying extra for the experience.
While in Budapest, be sure to take a cruise along the Danube river, which flows through the city, separating Buda from Pest. You will see the city in a different perspective.
Another trip you could plan while staying in Budapest is a day trip to Dresden. To get to Dresden, you could take a train and this journey tracks along the Danube, showing some of the most spectacular sights of Hungary, with mountains, meadows, churches and old buildings along the way. Some advice if you are going to take the train: Sit on the right hand side on the way to Dresden, and the left hand side on the return journey. You will have river views all the way!
If you do manage to visit Budapest, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and I hope my post will help your research before visiting this wonderful city.
