I have already visited and we are fortunate to have a wee house near Yambol.
As you say it is a country of extremes but because of this it is truly refreshing to this Londoner!

Very nice that is a warm rigon there people make excellent wine and nature is very beautiful. Close to the Black sea also.It is at a good location. Bulgaria have many so called "energy places" that might be interesting for you .
