The Burj Al Arab
The Burj Al Arab, located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is one of the most iconic luxury hotels in the world. Designed to resemble the sail of a ship, it stands on a man-made island 280 meters (920 feet) off Jumeirah Beach and is connected to the mainland by a private bridge. Opened in 1999, the Burj Al Arab has become a symbol of Dubai's opulence and ambition.
Architectural Design
The building was designed by Tom Wright of WKK Architects. At 321 meters (1,053 feet) tall, it was the tallest all-suite hotel in the world upon its completion. The striking sail-shaped silhouette is achieved with a steel exoskeleton and a white fabric façade that reflects sunlight during the day and is illuminated with vibrant colors at night.
