Project Update : 17 March 2024

in #burnsteem252 months ago (edited)

Here’s an update on my knitting project using the chunky yarn I got in a supermarket last week. The weather has been a bit cold so it’s been ideal ‘knitting weather’.

The photo below shows you how far I’ve got and if you think that’s not enough, let me tell you that I’ve already unravelled it once. The reason I had to undo the knitting was because I found it too hard to knit in the round so I had to rethink all my plans.

I decided to just do a raglan sleeve cardigan using the same yarn and the same 6.0mm knitting needles. I think I'm making good progress considering the false start and difficulties handling the circular needles.

To recap a bit : my initial plan was to make a cardigan but then changed my mind and decided to go for a lacy pullover. That didn’t work because it was too hard to handle the round knitting needles and the thick yarn. You start knitting from the neck down so it was really hard to avoid it becoming messy.

In case you’re not familiar with the structure of a raglan cardigan, I’ve taken another photo and added labels so you can visualise how the cardigan is growing.

You can see the corners being marked by safety pins - I could actually take those off now as the shape is easy to follow on the right side.

Fortunately I had recently learnt a new knitting stitch so I decided to use it to avoid getting too bored knitting just plain. I think the simple stitch gives the cardigan texture and adds some interest too.

I took the close-up of the stitch, which is called Andalusian stitch, and have attached a short tutorial below in case you’re interested and want to give it a try :

I'm hoping to finish it all soon as I need to continue making curtains now I know they work okay. I also need to point out that the yarn is not soft so I hope the feel of the cardigan is acceptable once it's knitted and I've soaked it in fabric softener.

Thank you for reading !
