What is the name of the traditional game you selected? In your own words, explain how to play
Game Name

• Tug of War

Objective

There will be a designated mid point from which you have to pull rope to a certain distance if you want to win and there will be opposing teams which will stand across designated points.

Number of Players

In tug of war total number of players are normally 8-10 with both teams of 4,4 or 5,5 members.

Equipment

Equipment which is used in tug of war is sturdy rope containing marker in centre.

Playing technique

• First we divide players in two teams equally.
• After that we choose an area of playing and it can be indoor or outdoor depending upon choice.
• Rope is placed perpendicular to the teams at ground.
• After that teams are asked to grip rope by facing each other.
• A signal is given to both teams so that they may start pulling.

  • All members of each team should work with each other by using their strength.
    • Those team which full opposing team across midpoint or pull rope at a set distance will be chosen as winner.
Basic Rules

• Teams should not let go of the rope.
• There should be no cheating in form of wrapping the rope around any object.
• There should be no blocking opponents present in between.

So, now it's clear that tug of War is a game which encourages teamwork, strength, and strategy so its a game needs engagement of all players for all ages!

What are your rules? Did you make any changes to the rules to suit you?
Official Tug of War rules

• There should be two teams in which there should be 4 to 5 players present in each team.
• Rope used should be sturdy and should have a length of at least 8 to 10 m in which they should be a marker in centre to determine mid point.
• Area at which tag of war is playing should be clear and that surface which should be at least 10 to 15 m long.
• Rope should be pulled 3-4 metres to the opposing team for winning.
• There should be no wrapping of rope around any object or there should not be any restricting opponent or object while playing the game.

Now I am going to talk about modification which I have made in rules as I just have two players in tug of war;

Modified rules for 2-Player Tug of War

• First I have shortened length of rope which was just of 3.5-4 m in length.
• I reduced area for playing game and it was just 7 to 8 metres long.
• After that for adjustment of winning conditions I asked both children to pull the rope 1 to 2 m.
• After that I set a timer of 120 seconds for choosing winner of the game.

Additional Variations

As this was a game in between two children of 9 years old and 10 years old that's why I don't make some of the complex variation but in your case you can make some of the additional variation that I am explaining here;

• You can ask the players to wear resistance bands.
• You can ask the players to hold rope with just one of their hand.
• You can ask the players to use some particular styles and techniques for rope pulling like with arm only or with leg only.

So, that was all about how can you play tug of war with two players too.

Of the characteristics of traditional games that we have discussed, which ones do you think are present in the traditional game you chose

Traditional game I choose was Tug of War and this is exhibiting the following characteristics what I have learned from course;

• Simplicity in rules like tug of war is really very easy to understand and play and there is no complicated rules lies here.

• Minimal equipment used in tug of war as you have read above also that only equipment need is solely a sturdy rope.

• Flexibility of time and place is present in tug of war as it can be played anywhere(Indoor or outdoor) at anytime of your choice.

• Physical movement is an important element in this game as it is encouraging physical activity especially movement of arms hands and legs.

• Social interaction can be boost up with tug of war by fostering a good teamwork and collaboration.

• Skill can be developed in an enhanced way by enhancement of strength, strategy, cooperation and teamwork.

Did the kids have fun? Share your experience playing this traditional game with them. Feel free to tell us about the best moments you experienced during the activity

I played this game by the help of my neighbors children as there are no children in my home.Definitely they had a lot of fun playing with each other as they have heard about this game first time. I guide them completely about game that how it will start and what they should do throughout the game.Finally it was start of game in between them.

I asked them to hold this sturdy role and start pulling so from both of you guys ,the one which will pull the rope across mid point for 2 minutes will win the game.I was standing in mid for observing both of their performance.In start both were very excited and both were saying that I will win 😂

This is a picture I have taken when this little girl were smiling and she was very happy as she was just about to win the game so finally she wins the game although she was 1 year younger than his brother so I was also assuming that his brother will have more strength than her.

This is a picture I captured when he was not feeling happy as he was thinking that now he can't win and his sister will win.I was enjoying the situation because of cuteness of both of them that how both of them are competitive for each other and wants to get lead at each other in game.

After losing game,see how he is giving justifications that his sister cheats and that's why she wins 😂 but she didn't cheat and didn't do anything as I was standing by there to observe every situation.

At last,I make them feel easy by realizing them that it was just a simple game for fun,not a big competition so they should get relaxed and then I convinced them finally to take a group photo with me and then his little brother also came at the time of group photo who was busy in disturbing them throughout the game 😂.

That was all about my joyful experiences with these children.Hope you have also enjoyed them.
