Sunkissed or Touchstones: Diary Entry #6

IMG_20240420_163645.jpg

It's been a while since I last wrote in my diary. Seeing certain thing, publications and one card resting on a cute little stand, prompted me to make this entry today.

There was a competition happening in Dream Steem, organized by @dove11, that got me reflecting a lot on my own parents and childhood. However, I didn't participate in the contest because the organizer had set guidelines about keeping it light and funny, but I suppose a topic like this is bound to blur those lines—intentionally or unintentionally. It's such a sensitive topic. Thank you for mentioning me, Dove. I saw the results of the contest. You definitely had a difficult task dealing with all those emotions... It was inevitable!

It will definitely stir up a lot of emotions and memories, but perhaps it's important to reflect on those experiences. Nonetheless, I hope whoever participated found solace or catharsis in sharing their stories. Until then, my diary will hold onto these untold tales, silently waiting for the right moment to reveal them.

And there was a post by @jaynie Nature versus Nurture

I think our parents were definitely less considerate than we are today, but then they could say the same about their parents. I remember my father reminiscing about his childhood; sometimes it was all about the bitter details of how he was mistreated or how his parents left him with his grandparents because they needed a helping hand.

As for my mother, she always remembered her childhood with very fond memories. I have never once heard her talk in a bitter or resentful way about her parents. Well, her father passed away very early in her childhood, but even then, she has fond memories of her father and her fraternal and maternal side of uncles and aunts.

I love it how the sun brings out the true colour of your eyes

Here's a fun fact: my parents are cousins from their maternal side, meaning they have the same grandparents, uncles, and aunts from that side, but both have very different experiences. So is it all about circumstances and perspectives???

One fact could be that my mother visited them only yearly, and she hailed from an influential family, meaning they were financially better off than their maternal side of the family. So she and her brothers were treated like royalties there!

But my father, on the other hand, has a totally different perspective of those same people. My mother never liked it when my dad talked ill about their common grandfather from the maternal side.

It's deep

Right now I am sharing with you some photos taken from drone giving you a bird's eye from my parents' place:

This picture is taken from my folks' place. My brother sent me this shot from his unmanned air vehicle's camera (drone's camera). He has taken over my room at my parents' place. I am still thankful to my dad for giving me the best room in the house with direct access to the rooftop. I had never been a smoker, but if I were, I would easily go to the roof and smoke to my heart's content. Later on, when one of my brothers tried smoking, he would ask my permission to use the access.

But I had some moments to myself on the roof. It was such a great place to go when I felt suffocated and would spend hours listening to those airplanes landing and taking off. Well, the "take-off" sound always felt even better.

I don't know how many lives we need to understand the complexities of this life... To gain that wisdom of touchstones. They say touchstones serve as fundamental markers or guiding principles that help us navigate the complexities of life and thought.

Do you know what a touchstone really is; in the true literal sense? No?

It is a type of black stone formerly used to test the purity of gold or silver by the streak left on it when it was rubbed with the metal. Your Dictionary

I wonder, what would it say about me if someone had to test me? body soul? What kind of streak will I leave behind...

You read my mind. I, too, pondered over this question and thought that even eternity would not be enough for us.

Beautiful views. Living near the Carpathians, I can't realize that there are flat landscapes 😁

You always speak fondly of your parents. So, they managed to give you a real childhood 🙂.

We have flat landscapes, and sometimes we create mock hills and sunken lawns to evoke the satisfying feeling of living in such terrains. It's so human nature. Speaking of human nature, it remains an unsolved mystery, mostly predictable but sometimes so unexpected...

You always speak fondly of your parents.

Well, I wouldn't want my father to read this post of mine. Lol. In case you missed it, I've mentioned something about him reminiscing his own childhood with not much fondness... 😝

I wonder, what would it say about me if someone had to test me?

The only one who can really put you through your paces is YOU. And that makes you your toughest and strictest tester...

Couldn't agree more.

There is one more tester: your kids (if this variable can be put into the equation).

They will figure you out, they definitely will. What kind of parent you were and what kind of person you are. It's only a matter of time!!!

That's right, good point! They test and are mercilessly honest about it.

Brutally honest!
And sometimes this honesty doesn't sit well with the parents ;)

Wow! Is that your own racetrack or airport? You must be well off. LOL 😂

Haha
One way to see it!

Thank you for stopping by

Yes, sometimes I am goofy but my brain was fried because I finally got the objects from DirectX 11 to DirectX 12 to show up yesterday. Maniacal laughter.

I think you need to take a good break from household chores.
Fatigue tends to build up and it affects the quality of life.
Reflection is useful, but ... there's nothing like a good quality rest :)

Do I look fatigued?
Is it so obvious...

I read your post and see your tiredness in your words.
Resources can be used, but they need to be replenished in time :)
