Five years ago I made a personal choice to leave the Corporate world because I was burnt out on Managing people, schedules, internal politics, various agendas and meetings.
Oh how I remember those 'wasted' hours attending 'mandatory' meetings, even within the Non-Profit Org. arena as well...with numerous Senior level managers who seemed to exist 'only' for the purpose of attending meetings...
Then, they'd all have 'lunch' together, while we 'mid-level' managers went back to 'real' work, attempting to make up for falling behind in 'real' work, due to 'meetings'...???
Internal politics, hidden agendas, and all that other crap you mention in your article reminds me of how much 'happier' I am/was to have detached myself from that dysfunctional and least productive working environment.
There is no doubt that you can relate to what I meant.
