Keeping sentences as short as possible...since English isn't my mother tongue...so it's sometimes hard for me to explain a word or a situation...
That's just a matter of practice and vocabulary building. There is an editing tool called Hemingway, that costs $10USD, that is specifically designed to help eliminate complex sentences and simplify writing. It does give some suggestions, but mostly it just points out where your sentences might be too complex. That might help.

Grammarly is okay, if you want a really great editor, buy whitesmoke. It's the best english language digital grammar editing tool.
