Meditation with the Tree
Here is an article that I initially wrote in November 2007. I modified it a little in June 2018, to take into account the distance I now have from this practice. It is still topical and I hope you will enjoy it, and it will bring you as much (and more) benefits as I myself have received.
When I was practicing it regularly unexpected and surprising things arose in my life. This tree was in a forest that I no longer frequent regularly because of its remoteness. I don't work in this place anymore. However, by trusting our intuition it is possible to find other places that we feel are conducive to meditation and positive energies.
I still think about "my tree" and reconnect with it by thinking from time to time. Sometimes I go back to this place, at least once a year.
This may seem surprising, but there is nothing like experience or experimentation to verify the effects of this practice for yourself.
Beyond the upheaval and worries of material life, there is a way to recharge and connect or reconnect with the Universe.
How can this be achieved?
By looking for a tree in the forest, high and straight, thus symbolizing straightness, spiritual elevation, as well as rooting.
The symbol of the hermetic principle,“everything above is like everything below" takes on its full meaning here.
After finding your tree in the forest, put your back against its trunk, your feet forming a 90 degree angle, to symbolize and express the straightness, the palm of your left hand behind your back and laid flat against the trunk of the tree. You will then place the palm of your right hand on your heart.
Breathe slowly and deeply, concentrating on your breathing first. Close your eyes and visualize the roots of the tree that descend very deeply into the ground and thus represent your willingness to root, your ability to remain in the real world, beyond your desire for spiritual elevation. Also visualize the tree that rises towards the sky, towards the universe, to manifest with it your desire for elevation.
Concentrate on the energy that rises from the earth through your feet, visualize the energy that travels through your body to your head (the 7th chakra).
Breathe with the tree, you are that part of the universe in creation, which lives, which beats at the rhythm of the universe, you are in the middle, between earth and heaven, among creation.
I do this barefoot exercise in direct contact with the ground, even in winter.
When you feel refreshed, turn against the trunk of the tree, circle it with your arms as a sign of gratitude, this ritual will help you to regain full contact with the material world, here and now, regenerated by the meditation of the tree.
This meditation can be very powerful and it is important to allow yourself a time of transition to fully reconnect with the material world.
Thanks for this post, the sturdiness and tranquility of trees have been an inspiration for my meditations and you put words to my reasons why. I’m also writing on meditations, feel free to check out my blog and followed list for some resources you might find interesting. Enjoy!
