WhatsApp is the most used messaging application around the world. With 1.2 million daily users, the application has become an almost indispensable tool for communication either with friends, family or work. To get the most out of the app, each user can configure several elements of WhatsApp and adapt it to their needs.

For example, the application allows you to mute group notifications, disable download with mobile data to reduce the expense or change to the corporate version. If your problem is that you have the mobile gallery full of absurd photos and videos that you receive by WhatsApp you can deactivate the auto-save.

For Android phones you must open the settings tab from the icon of the three vertical points in the upper right corner. In "Settings" go to the "Chat Settings" section and then click on "Automatic multimedia download". You will see three options: images, audio and video. To cancel the automatic download deactivates the "check" of the multimedia element you want or all of them if you do not want them to be stored in the mobile's gallery.

If you use a mobile with iOS system you can also deactivate the automatic download of files. Open the WhatsApp settings menu by clicking on the gear icon in the lower right corner that appears when you are not in a chat.

Open the option "Data and storage" and then you will see that there are several options for automatic download of multimedia. Open each item (photos, audio, videos and documents) individually and select the "never" option so that they are not downloaded automatically on the iPhone reel.

IPhone mobiles also allow you to disable the automatic download of multimedia files from individual chats. If most of the photos and videos you do not want to save come from a group or two, cancel the download of these conversations only. To do this enter the chat in question, click on the title and open the "Save files on the reel" tab. Select the "Never" option.

Remember that you can also configure WhatsApp to only download multimedia files when your mobile is connected to a WiFi network if you want to save mobile data.
