I think it's vital we agree upon what the meaning of words are, and use words correctly. This is the basis of communication and without it we can't hope to have a functioning society or even useful discussions. People using words randomly and inappropriately today is one major cause of problems between us. I'm reminded of the concept of Newspeak/doublethink from 1984. Words become misused and twisted until they mean the opposite of what they once did, rendering all previous discussion, writings, memories etc obsolete. We're part way there now!
So, thank you for taking care to define your terms clearly. : )
Great point, I wholeheartedly agree! Bad habits spread like wild fire too. Some might think that something like "lol" or "tbh" is not a big deal, until you're having a real life conversation with someone and they literally say "laugh out loud."
It's only my opinion too, that text based conversations being so prevalent today is also not a good thing. I have some strict personal "rules" when it comes to conversation, (in terms of people I know in real like, have each others phone numbers) I have a "no text" policy for anything that is not simple one liners. My reason is because inflection cannot be read properly, and how we perceive text, is an inner projection of how we "think" we are being addressed. I get met with almost hostility, people do not like to make phone calls anymore, at least in my world.
Yes, and I'm also reminded of the movie Idiocracy. Oh we know how Hollywood rolls though don't we...
Thank you for your great comment my friend! :)
Nice. It's a great idea to have guidelines for communication like that. I have some rules around other people's use of smart devices in my home. And certain people I just don't communicate in certain ways, like my parents I only want to speak with in person, by phone, or email. Nothing else works... and sometimes those don't even :P
