Higher trims offer integrated navigation, smartphone mirroring, and enhanced audio with added tweeters.
The driver benefits from a comfortable seating position with multiple adjustments for both the seat and steering wheel. Storage is practical, with large door pockets, although the glovebox is on the smaller side. Cabin space is generous for both front and rear passengers, though tall individuals may feel slightly restricted on long journeys.
Cargo space is another strong point: the Escudo provides 375 liters of boot space, expandable to 710 liters when the rear seats are folded flat. The rear tailgate opens wide, making loading and unloading straightforward.
Exterior
The Escudo’s exterior design has undergone several transformations:
1st Generation (1988–1990): Offered as compact 3-door models—either hardtop or convertible—with classic mini-SUV proportions.
1991: Introduction of the 5-door model expanded practicality.
2nd Generation (1998): Adopted a more rounded and aerodynamic shape.
2001: A stretched “XL7” variant appeared, offering a larger cabin and optional third-row seating for up to seven occupants.
3rd Generation (2005): Received a complete redesign, featuring a more muscular and modern appearance.
4th Generation (2018 refresh): Launched with a bold five-slot grille, chrome accents, and a more contemporary face.
The 2020 Escudo showcases a broader two-bar grille connecting the headlights, LED daytime running lights positioned at the bumper edges, and sporty character lines along the hood and doors. These design cues give it a rugged yet refined road presence.
