There’s more to CAFE standards than just mileage.

“The longer the drain interval for engine oil, the more credit for corporate fuel economy standards (CAFE) the manufacturer gets.”

Lake Speed Jr., auto expert

Each car puts out less used oil in its lifetime, you see. All they had to do was convince you to change it less often. The bonus? You buy new cars when yours fall apart, right after warranty expires.

The new manuals that tell you to go ten thou between oil changes?

Ignore them. Change your oil at 3k to 5k intervals. Period.

Not only do motors fail at lower mileage, causing you to need another car… but the maker gets government credit for being good to the environment!

What a pantload. Change your oil at 3k to 5k. There no such thing as a ten thousand mile oil change interval, it’s just calculated destruction of your engine just AFTER the warranty expires. Plus a tax check from Uncle Sam to Chevrolet.

Same for “lifetime sealed transmissions”. They fail after warranty expires.

You are the victim in this. Don’t listen to them.. change your oil at 3k to 5k, and get your transmission done around 40k and 80k… if you want them to last.
