Journal Entry #5: Update on Stem Cell Therapy for Ivory
A quick update on my cat, Ivory, and her experience with kidney failure and stem cell therapy. Today we went to the vet to have her approximately 90 day checkup and see how she is doing since her stem cell treatment in February of this year.
We got a reasonably good report. She has gained weight (from 8.7lbs in March) to 9.4lbs today. Her BUN went from 40 to 39 (normal is 16-36) so still a little high. Her CREA went from 2.7 to 3.0 (normal is 0.8 to 2.4) -- so we lost a little ground there and are back at the level seen in January when first diagnosed. Her specific gravity was 1.015 (normal is >1.035). Last number was 1.016 in January.
So we will continue Azodyl (probiotic 1 pill / day currently) and attempt to increase to 2 pills / day. We will continue on K/D diet and potentially try the K/D mobility as she is no jumping as much, but then again she is 15 years old which roughly equates to 76 so she is entitled to slow down a bit in our retirement phase! We will continue with fluid therapy about once a week also.
Way to go Ivory! Please keep us in your prayers, we are most thankful for the good report especially the weight gain.
