My Dusty Upvotes
I love comments. Well, genuine ones. Not the bots kind, not the spam kind, not the for-the-sake-of-commenting kind but the ones from the heart, sincere and real.
And many times, I will not upvote a good comment...yet. Don't get me wrong. It is not because I don't want to. In fact, I would very much love to but I know while I want to show support for a good, sincere comment, I know my standalone upvote will not be able to translate to something of value to the person who commented.
In my past life here, I read and learnt about dust upvotes. Basically, an upvote value that is less than 0.02 cents is considered as a dust upvote. Whether it is an upvote for a post or a comment, at the end of the 7-days cycle, if it remains as less than 0.02 cents, there will be no payout to the author or curator and the dust upvote will be returned into a "global rewards pool", though I am not too sure what this "global rewards pool" meant.
Based on this logic, if the comment has already been upvoted and I see that the value is 0.02 cents and above, then I would add my upvote in there because then, I know you will get your deserved reward from my upvote. And instead of upvoting your comment, I would go to your posts, and show my support by upvoting there instead, because collectively with all other upvotes, at the end of the 7-day payout cycle, at least my upvote can turn into a reward for you.
This was 8 years ago. And I think this policy still holds because I have not read any post that says otherwise. Back then, we had nice bots like dustsweeper and dustbunny, that we can delegate a small amount to, to help upvote our posts to ensure the value is at 0.02 cents and above so that payout counts. But the last I checked, I think both bots are not longer around or working.
How do I know how much my upvote is worth? I use @steemchiller's all-in-one portal https://steemworld.org/@your_username. It is really useful and informative for me personally, as it shows in summary, all I need to know about my steemit account. At the Dashboard function, I am able to see every transaction (rewards, replies, upvotes, transfers, etc) and on a daily basis, I would refresh the dashboard, like how I refresh my email inbox to check if I have new email but steemworld is more fun to refresh 😊as it gives more update information.
So my friends, if I do not upvote your comment and we are chatting, it does not mean that I do not like your comment or that I do not support you, it is just that I am not ready yet - to be able to give you a worthwhile standalone upvote value that will turn into a reward for you after the 7-day payout cycle. I hope I will be able to, in due time. Unless, someone can educate me that the 0.02 cents dust upvotes are no longer the case now?

Hi! There are many ways to grow on Steemit, one is upvoting. I understand what you mean, that feeling that our upvote is not worthy. I'll tell You something, sometimes when I see a comment being upvoted previously but didn't reach that 0.02, I do upvote to make sure the cometer gets something, of course if I find it valuable. Maybe someone else (like a curator or another user) likes the comment too and gives a little support. Then I can get also get an unexpected reward.
On the other hand, un upvoted comment usually gets up in the list, showing there is something kind of important about it.
I'll tell you more: I didn't know a global rewards pool existed haha. I know now thanks to you.
I asked Gemini about that on Steemit and it says that it might go, for instance, to the witnesses. Let's ask @wakucat, she surely knows better.
I understood your explanation about bots support in this case. I have never used them, and won't, I'm sure more people like me will find your content worthy.

I would love to upvote quality comments too but my upvote value is only 0.006 at the moment which would be a waste to the commenter (with the SP and voting power/weight calculation). So I would upvote the commenter's post instead, unless I see that their comment has already been upvoted and my upvote will add on to it to be above 0.02. At least, they will get a payout from my little upvote added with the rest of the upvotes they got from the comment or post.
Haha yah.. but the posts I read were written 8 years ago, so I am not sure if it is still the same now. Guess what, I asked Gemini too hahahah (if Gemini was human, he/she probably thinking why are there so many questions about this now? Hahah).
I used dustbunny before and it did help but I think these bots have all moved to Hive. Yup yup, steemworld is great. My go-to dashboard.
