A Short Goodbye
She said: Would you just stop trying to prove that you are right for once? He replied: It is not about whose right or whose wrong and I do not mind doing things your way or any other way. All that I,... She interrupted him by saying: Yeah, let me continue it for you. You always say the same thing. You want the best for me, isn't it? You were about to say it, weren't you? I have to tell you that I know what is best and if you are not willing to come with me. We can keep in touch from a long distance. But, I have taken the final decision and I am leaving for work, and the little shop we have in town is barely making us a living. It is just for one or two years and I will be coming back.
A few month later, the phone rang. He answered: Hello. She said: I have been worried dad! I wasn't able to reach you for couple of days. He replied: I have caught a cold. But, don't worry about it. I am making a surprise for you. I have re-innovated your room. She was speechless, as she knew that he never did that before and he misses her. But, just didn't put it in words. She uttered: I'll be there in no time. Tomorrow my vacation starts and I will be there.
A day later, she went back home. To find a house with no sound. Quiet rooms, just like a haunted house. She felt guilty for leaving her father alone. She kept calling with no answer. Then, she opened her room's door, to see him laying on the floor, wearing formally for her return. But, life did not grant him few more moments to see his daughter before he leaves. Next to her old bed was the flower that he was watering. It was the gift and the re-innovation that could be afforded and maybe something to take care of while no one is around. She took the flower and placed it between his cold fingers and said: I could not imagine the ending of someone's life could be the moment that all souls leaves Earth and that, one body was carrying both of our souls.

This is so sad and at the same time I think: how come we only appreciate someone once he is dad, how come we are so late to see all facets of love? How come she never saw during all those years how he cared?
May dad rest in peace.
