The insect I'm going to tell you about today is the larva of a moth. It's name is

Cutworm caterpillar

This larva is usually found in plants that are still young because its diet consists of the stems of such plants.

Scientific name

Spodoptera

Normally it is hide under the litter in the day time and comes out at night. Normally it's feed is the first part of the plant.

Genus

Agrotis segetum

Important species are for instance the black cutworm Agrotis ipsilon and the turnip moth Agrotis segetum.

Family

The name “cutworm” is given to caterpillars in the family Noctuidae, subfamily Noctuinae, many of which are agricultural pests.

Habitat

They are voracious leaf, bud, and stem feeders and can destroy entire plants. They get their name from their habit of "cutting" off a seedling at ground level by chewing through the stem.

Order

Cutworms, also called nocturnal moths, are insects of the order Lepidoptera which, in their larval stage (caterpillars), can damage potatoes.

When we touched it then it turned itself like c shape.
It is also called the larvae of moth.

Normally caterpillar blongs to the Phylum Arthropoda.

Size and eyes

Cutworms are dull brown caterpillars ranging in length from 1 to 2 inches when fully grown. Most Caterpillars have six very simple eyes on each side of the head (making 12 in all), although some species have five or seven each side.
