Dunure Castle near Ayr in Scotland is located right next to the small village of Dunure. It is a ruined 13th-century fortress on the Ayrshire coast, once owned by the powerful Kennedy family. Built in the 1200s as a small keep it served as the main fortress for the Kennedys and is most famous for being visited by Mary Queen of Scots in August 1563. The castle became a ruin by the 1700s and is now free to enter. #dunurecastle #scotalnd #scottishcastles #ayr
