NBA Launches Digital Portal for Certificate of Origin

The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA), under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has launched a new digital portal to enable online issuance of Certificates of Origin (COO) for cultivated medicinal plants. The portal provides a single-window, end-to-end system for stakeholders to apply, process, and receive COOs electronically, significantly reducing paperwork and speeding up compliance procedures. This initiative aligns with recent amendments to the Biological Diversity Act and Rules, enabling easier access and benefit sharing exemptions for sectors including AYUSH, seeds, and research institutions. The platform is accessible at absefiling.nbaindia.in and marks a major step toward modernizing regulatory processes for biodiversity and medicinal plant stakeholders.
