Tips For Civil Engineer Students.
Tips For Civil Engineer Students.
Today With this constant changing world and the big amount of people getting their college degree it’s more and more difficult to get a job overall in countries where exist a big amount of people who are Civil engineering professionals, that why I decided create this post for help people to introduce them in the fantastic world and at the same time give them some tips.
Let’s start in my Country where one of the problems in my personal opinion the academic program is still in the 90th. And here is where I’m going to explain why according to my experience.
When you read an academic program in most of case I figured out that the program is really good but one of the problems is the application, and is the still apply so much classical methods almost in everything subject everything is making in a paper sheet without using programs (new technologies).
Here one example, if we are studying a subject like Reinforment Concrete Design, of course is important learning the basic principles and more important knowing the Codes, but I’ve seen that teacher focus all the attention and waste so many hour calculating a simple beam with their hand on the board And almost all the semester spend it on this. The same case happens with other subjects.
But here is my point we could approach this o time explaining to the student this kind of subject using software at the same time that the teachers explain in the board the basic principles. Students could not only pay more attention if not that they could feel engage with the subject.
We should remember the day; we finally have our college degree. We start affronting the real world and usually the companies pay much more attention for the people who know using that software. Beside one of the advantages of this is why spend hours and hours making a simple exercise?
As I said all this is in my personal opinion I would like share with you some of the software that all civil engineer students have to use before getting the College degree.
Basic and elemental for everything:
Microsoft Excel: Most of the budgets are made with this program also as a calculator sheet help us a lot.
Drawing software:
Autodesk AutoCAD: this is one of the most elemental and the reason is simple even when we don’t used to make drawing all projects come in a format DWG. We could say this is the ABC in the engineering and Architecture world
Autodesk Revit: It’s more focused for architectures but DWG in some countries have been starting to under the Concept of BIM technology.
Structural Softwares
ETABS: with almost 30 years in the market has been the most using program for civil engineers for calculates structures.
Design of Roads
Autodesk Civil CAD: software especially designed to make roads and terrains
Also it’s important to know any software for control and administration of building in my country for example exist.
Lulowin: this software help us for make budget estimations and give name to the activities that we are going to do, one of the advantage of this program is that you can custom according to the project.
Another important thing is minimum speak 2 languages is elemental we never know when could have an opportunity to get out to another country.
