I want to thank the Steemit team for the opportunity to apply for this season’s challenge pitch, and this season, my pitch is what I titled “Meals and Cultures of the World” (Expressing culture through taste)”.

I joined the platform in 2021 and have served in different capacities in the system and still look forward to serving more and give my best, I am presently a moderator in steem fashion and style community, ladies universe and traveling steem community and also acted as a community curator on different occasions.

Challenge Concept

Food is more than nourishment , it is our identity, history, memory, heritage, and culture served on a plate.

This challenge is a global cultural journey that will help us explores how meals are powerful expressions of our human identity.

Across civilizations, cultures, and continents, food has always been a language, a way we express who we are, where we come from, what we value, and how we live.

Meals and Cultures of the World is not a cooking competition.
It is a cultural documentation challenge that uses food as a lens to explore our;

  • History
  • Migration
  • Identity
  • Community
  • Family
  • Heritage
  • Lifestyle and
  • Unity

Each week, the participants will explore one culture and one meal, telling the story behind the food, not just how it is prepared, but what it represents. This challenge connects our tastes to tradition, flavor to faith, meals to memory, and our recipes to our roots.

Participants are encouraged to express culture through:

  • Storytelling
  • Photography
  • Videography
  • Personal experiences
  • Research
  • Documentation
  • Cultural narratives

The objectives of this challenge

This challenge is designed to:

  • Help to Promote global cultural awareness and appreciation.
  • Encourage cultural storytelling through food.
  • Makes for Preservation and documentation of traditional meals and heritage recipes.
  • Will educate participants on the cultural meanings behind meals.
  • Build empathy and understanding between cultures
  • Will Encourage quality content creation
  • Strengthen our Steemit ecosystem through creative engagement with other cultures.
  • Support the use of Steem Atlas and Steem Video
  • Encourage originality, depth, and cultural research
  • Transform food posts into cultural archives

Weekly Structure (6 Weeks)

Each week, we will focuses on ONE culture plus ONE meal, explored deeply through storytelling, cultural explanation, and personal reflection.

Participants are expected to:

  • Cook the meal
  • Eat the meal
  • Document the meal
  • Research the meal
  • Experience it locally
  • Explore it digitally
  • Present it through video
  • Narrate it through writing
    Our goal is cultural expression, not perfection.

Weekly Themes

🖋️ Week 1: Roots & Identity
Theme: Food as Cultural Identity

Task:
Participants will explore a meal that represents their own culture, tribe, ethnic group, or heritage. This is a personal cultural reflection week.
Participants should tell the story behind the meal:

  • Why is this food important to your people?
  • When is it traditionally eaten? Is it festive, ceremonial, daily, or symbolic?
  • What does it represent culturally?
  • How does it reflect the lifestyle, values, and history of your people?
  • What memories do you personally associate with it?

This week focuses on identity, roots, belonging, and personal heritage.

🖋️ Week 2: Across Borders
Theme: Discovering Another Culture

Task: Participants will explore a culture different from their own and focus on one traditional meal from that culture.

They should share:

  • The origin of the meal.
  • The cultural background. The people who eat it.
  • The social meaning of the food.
  • Ingredients and preparation style.
  • What the meal says about that culture’s lifestyle and environment.

This week encourages cross-cultural learning, curiosity, respect, and global exploration.

🖋️ Week 3: Festive Foods
Theme: Celebration Meals

Task:
Participants will explore foods eaten during:

  • Cultural festivals
  • Religious celebrations
  • Weddings
  • Naming ceremonies
  • National holidays
  • Cultural rituals
  • Traditional rites

They should explain:

  • Why this meal is sacred or special
  • The event it is connected to
  • The symbolism behind it
  • The emotions attached to it
  • The traditions surrounding its preparation and sharing.

This week focuses on food as a carrier of joy, spirituality, celebration, and sacred meaning.

🖋️ Week 4: Street Food Culture
Theme: Everyday Cultural Meals

Task:
Participants will explore street foods or everyday meals that define the daily life of a people.

They should document:

  • The environment where the food is sold
  • The people who prepare it. The community around it
  • The social interaction around the meal. (The lifestyle it represents)
  • The affordability and accessibility
  • The cultural importance of this everyday food

This week reflects real-life culture, not luxury culture.

🖋️ Week 5: Home & Heritage
Theme: Family Meals and Cultural Transmission

Task:
Participants will explore meals passed down through:

  • Families
  • Generations
  • Lineage
  • Ancestral traditions
  • Oral history
  • Cultural inheritance

They should share:

  • Who taught them the recipe
  • The family history behind it
  • The cultural significance
  • Why it is preserved
  • How food becomes a tool for cultural continuity.

This week focuses on legacy, memory, inheritance, and preservation.

🖋️ Week 6: Unity Through Food
Theme: Food as Global Connection

Task:
Participants will explore:

  • Meals shared across multiple cultures
  • Fusion meals
  • Migrated foods
  • Adapted cultural meals
  • Globalized dishes

They should write on:

  • Which Cultures the food connects (at least three cultural
    Connections)
  • Explain the ingredients they share in common
  • Describe the Shared traditions
  • What are the Cultural blending of the food
  • Explain how the food unites cultures.

This week focuses on unity, connection, globalization, and shared humanity.

Participation Format

Each entry must include:

  • One clearly identified meal
  • One clearly identified culture
  • Cultural background explanation
  • Historical or traditional context
  • Personal reflection
  • Original photos or videos
  • Proper storytelling structure
  • Clear headings and formatting
  • Authentic narration
  • Original content only
  • Respect for cultural representation

Steem Ecosystem Integration

Participants are encouraged to actively use:

  • Steem Atlas Location pinning: cultural mapping, community representation
  • Steem Video :Food preparation, storytelling, cultural narration, visual documentation

Participants may share their stories through:

  • Written posts

Challenge Summary

“Meals and Cultures of the World” is a cultural journey, not a cooking contest. It is a global storytelling experience where our tastes becomes language, meals become memory, and our food becomes identity.
