Hallo Dear Steemit Team,

First of all, thank you for opening up new opportunities to share initiatives and fresh ideas. I am submitting my solo application for Steemit Challenge Season 30, which is community-based and has an original concept.

Beyond the Pin: Archiving Real World Stories updates SteemAtlas into a broader search map that explores historical traces, human stories, social values, and environmental impacts behind a single coordinate point. Speem.watch is tangible evidence of this in a short video. Each participant completes different tasks each week over six weeks to find places and stories behind coordinates to expand Steem-atlas as a location-based narrative archive. Participants document social stories, spatial changes, small histories, and the real impact of field observations, not just showing their presence at a location. Participants also publish SteemAtlas posts with marked locations and add videos as evidence.

SteemAtlas serves as the primary platform support, while videos provide tangible proof of physical presence. Beyond The Pin aims to enhance narrative quality, strengthen content credibility, and enrich the Steem map with meaningful and sustainable stories.

Participants must use SteemAtlas to mark the locations they visit as the main focus each week so that their stories remain immortalised on the world map. Participants must share videos, either using Speem.watch or by uploading them to YouTube, as proof of their presence at the location. Videos uploaded must be at least 60 seconds long.

Challenge Format

  • At the beginning of each week, the organiser will publish a post introducing the weekly challenge, examples, rules and deadline.

  • At the end of each week, the organiser will publish a post announcing the 6 best posts that will be featured as the weekly highlights and receive special awards.

  • Each post must include a SteemAtlas pin, 4–6 original photos, a clear narrative based on location, and a Speem.Wacth video as proof of physical presence.

  • The accompanying narrative must be relevant to the weekly theme. All weekly themes are interconnected and have been determined by the organiser.

Beyond the Pin — 6-Week Plan

Week 1: Public Spaces That Are Often Overlooked

Visit locations that are not usually considered ‘important’ but actually have many stories to tell if observed honestly. Provide the location on SteemAtlas, explain why the place has been neglected, and describe the actual conditions on the ground. Convey your initial impressions and the hidden potential of the place.

Example locations:

  • An old, rarely used bus stop.
  • A park in a city corner.
  • A small suspension bridge connecting villages.
  • An empty field in the middle of a residential area.
  • A neighbourhood wheel station.

Week 2: Stories from the Past Behind the Location

Visit a location that holds traces of time, even though it is often overlooked by the authorities. Then provide the location to SteemAtlas, and explore the stories from the past (personal experiences, stories from residents, changes in function). Compare the past with the present. Explain the significance of these changes for the surrounding environment.

Example locations:

  • Old school building
  • Old cinema that is no longer in operation
  • Old industrial warehouse
  • Inactive railway station.

Week 3: Social and economic impact

Assess the role of a single location in influencing the social and economic lives of the surrounding community. Participants must observe human activity at the location and explain the social or economic impact that arises. Include real examples (traders, residents, workers, visitors) and provide the SteemAtlas location.

Example locations:

  • Street vendor areas.
  • Traditional markets or morning markets.
  • Fishing piers or small harbours.
  • Informal parking areas.

Week 4: Problems and Challenges at the Location

Reveal the other side of the location in the form of real problems. Identify existing problems (environment, access, cleanliness, security). Explain the causes and impacts. Convey observations objectively.

Examples of locations:

  • Polluted rivers.
  • Damaged green spaces.
  • Abandoned public buildings.
  • Informal waste disposal sites.

Week 5: Potential and Expectations

Viewing the location from a future perspective. Identifying untapped potential. Conveying residents' expectations or personal views. Integrating potential with environmental or social sustainability.

Examples of locations:

  • Vacant lots that are commonly used as public spaces.
  • Old buildings that are still structurally sound.
  • Riverbanks that have not been developed.
  • School grounds that are rarely used.
  • Former industrial areas.

Week 6: Places Worth Preserving or Developing

The significance of a location. Explain why the place is worth preserving or developing. Describe its cultural, social, economic, or environmental value. Outline the risks or losses if the place is neglected. Present your views on wise preservation or development.

Example locations:

  • Clean water sources or springs.
  • Small forests or urban green spaces.
  • Local historical sites.
  • Meunasah, village halls, or community spaces.
  • Natural areas with ecological value or beaches.

Challenge Goals and Objectives

This challenge produces location-based documentation with long-term value. It will improve the quality of SteemAtlas content and build a real global experience map through SteemAtlas pins. The challenge encourages critical reflection and field observation and reduces generic and spam content on the platform.

Encourage active use of Steemit. Increase the number of posts based on real experiences in the field. Steemit users interested in cultural, social, historical and environmental issues.

  • Content must be original and based on direct experience.
  • Entries must be shared via YouTube or Speem.watch.
  • Must use SteemAtlas pins and Google Maps addresses for each entry.
  • Plagiarism, use of others' videos/photos, and fake locations are prohibited.
  • AI must not be used to replace field observations or real experiences.
  • Each upload must include 1 selfie photo among 4–6 photos (original personal photos based on real experiences).

Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.

I really liked the beautiful post you shared today about this Steam Atlas with a very beautiful concept. In addition, you shared it here to highlight different types of topics in six different places in 6 weeks, which is a very good initiative. I hope I can see this application of yours in the selection.

Thank you for your support

Welcome 🤍
