Chandragiri is a historic town best known for Chandragiri Fort in Andhra Pradesh, India, near Tirupati. It is an important place in South Indian history and architecture.
Chandragiri Fort was built in the 11th century by the Yadava rulers and later became a major stronghold of the Vijayanagara Empire. After the fall of Vijayanagara in the 16th century, Chandragiri served as the last capital of the empire. Many important rulers governed from here, making it a center of political and cultural activity.
The fort is famous for its impressive stone structures and beautiful surroundings. Inside the fort complex are several historical buildings, including the Raja Mahal and Rani Mahal. These palaces show a mix of Hindu and Islamic architectural styles, with arches, domes, and finely carved stonework. The Raja Mahal is now an archaeological museum that displays sculptures and artifacts from the Vijayanagara period.
Chandragiri is also known for its natural beauty. The fort is located on a rocky hill, offering scenic views of the surrounding landscape. Because of its historical importance and proximity to Tirupati, Chandragiri attracts tourists, history lovers, and students.
