Want a Selfie with a Confederate Statue? You Better Move Fast.

If you want a pic with a statue of Robert E. Lee or Nathan Bedford Forrest or any of those other Confederate leaders, you might want to do it sooner rather than later. They're unlikely to be around much longer.

Trump's vapid slippery slope ramblings:

“So, this week it’s Robert E. Lee,” Trump said. “I notice that Stonewall Jackson is coming down. I wonder is it George Washington next week, and is it Thomas Jefferson the week after? You know, you really do have to ask yourself, where does it stop?”

are almost comically easy to refute. For instance,

In fairness, the slippery slope argument is sometimes advanced by more intellectually serious advocates than Trump. It is wrong, even so. The argument fails because there are obviously relevant distinctions that can be made between Washington and Jefferson on the one hand and Confederate leaders on the other.
One crucial distinction it misses is that few if any monuments to Washington, Jefferson and other slaveowning Founders were erected for the specific purpose of honoring their slaveholding. By contrast, the vast majority of monuments to Confederate leaders were erected to honor their service to the Confederacy, whose main reason for existing was to protect and extend slavery.

Trump and others also make the claim that taking down Confederate monuments is somehow “changing” or “erasing” history. But ceasing to honor evil-doers is not the same as erasing all memory of them. No one proposes that we simply forget about Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and the Confederacy – or Hitler and Stalin, for that matter.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that many of those who are now professing faux concern about erasing history by statue removal had, in the recent past, been gleeful when Saddam Hussein's statue was famously torn down, and will once again express joy in the not-distant future when statues of Che Guevara don't fare well in post-communist Cuba.

Confederate statues are likely to have a short half-life.

Some are going to be removed by non-racist local officials:
"Lexington council unanimous in wanting Confederate statues relocated"

Others are already being "protected" by covering them up, making selfies rather difficult:
"AG files lawsuit against Birmingham over Confederate monument"

And still others will fall to direct action, with the perps subject to arrest.

A stunning sentence I stumbled onto: "[Governor Roy Cooper] said legislators should reject a bill, currently under consideration, that would grant immunity to drivers who strike protesters in streets." Whoa.

As an aside, I support flagging the wankers who are raping the reward pool. And lately, I have been using some of my Steem Power to flag white nationalist tripe I've been seeing on the site. @schlomokikestein is the most egregious I've run across so far. But there are others. At least two so far have retaliated by downvoting some of my unrelated apolitical posts. Meh, go for it dudes. It's not as if I have big plans to retire early on 4.286 SBD per week of author rewards.

Oh my, things are moving fast.
