Chart Your Course Challenge - tessaragabrielle

This challenge has been going around, and I think it’s a great idea! I think it started with @dreemsteem, and you can see the original post here: Chart Your Course Challenge. I love making goals—even when I don’t meet them, I generally accomplish more in striving for them than I would otherwise. Plus, I find making lists soothing, because I'm kind of a weirdo, and I find checking things off or crossing them out as I complete them very satisfying.
(I feel like someone tagged me to complete this challenge, and I can't for the life of me remember who...)
So here's the challenge:
- What is your Steemit goal? (In one sentence, make it as specific and as measurable as possible)
- Prioritize these three aspects of Steemit for you: Posting, Curating, Commenting
- Name up to 5 groups/communities that help you to achieve your goal.
- Name at least one measurable future goal for: 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months.
- And because everything should end on a sweet note... name your favorite dessert!
- Challenge 3-5 people to chart their course!
- Use the #chartyourcourse tag
1: My Steemit goal
I want to have an upvote that is worth $5 at 100%. Reaching this goal means I could make a big difference in someone's life, especially for folks in countries outside the global north/the western world. I don't know if STEEM will continue to hover above $2.50 or not, but any amount above $1 means my vote could really be worth something to someone, if I reach this goal.
2: My priorities
- Commenting: I’m on Steemit to engage with others, to support folks and build community. I came originally through @shawnamawna’s LinkYourLife initiative, and I love the idea of my engagement bringing monetary rewards to people who need it. I also think the 7-day post payout is frustratingly limited, and when I comment on an older post and the author replies, I can continue to support them for that post by upvoting their reply. In that way, I can continue to support them, even if they don’t have a more recent post for me to promote. (Because life happens, you know?)
- Posting: I am a deep thinker, generally, and it can take me a long time to go from idea to completed post. (This post has been in progress for at least a week.) For that reason, this is not as high a priority as commenting, since it naturally happens at a much slower rate. The rewards from posting go right back into my SP, however, and they will help me to build up and achieve my $5 upvote goal.
- Curating: I’m still figuring out curation, but it is a lower priority for me at the moment. I’m not going to do a regular curation post any time soon, and the half hour window for curation rewards on a post is a bit confusing for me at the moment. This may change, but for now curating is low on the list.
3: My crew
@teamgirlpowa, @thesteemengine, LinkYourLife, @slothicorn, @steemitramble
All of these groups have Discord servers, and the more conversational feel of the servers compliments the blog format of the Steemit platform quite well. We can check in on each other, share frustrations, promote our own and each other’s posts, all in a more casual format than the blogs. The folks I’ve met through the Steemit Discords I’ve joined have been welcoming, wonderful people, so far, and I’ve really enjoyed connecting with them and their works.
4: My mini-goals
- in 1 month, 100 SP
- in 3 months, 55 reputation score
- in 6 months, 300 SP
- in 12 months, 500 SP
(I’m making these pretty small because I start a PhD program in four months, and I want them to be achievable and realistic. If I blow past them, good, but I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself as I start grad school.)
5: My fave dessert
Chocolate-banana-peanut butter frozen yogurt shakes. Om nom…
6: My challengees
I don’t like tagging people, but if you’re reading this and you’re inspired, I definitely invite you to join the challenge.
Thanks for reading, y'all!

Great goals, I hope you achieve them all. I love this challenge too, Tessara! I’ll see if I can incorporate this into another post I want to write this weekend. :)
Ohhhh I can't wait :)
I love reading people's goals hehehehe
Hope it's a beneficial challenge to you!!! It sure was for me 😊
@dreemsteem you sound so enthusiastic it’s contagious. :)
I’ll be sure to tag you to grab your attention. I thought this might go well with the mycuriestory tag. But I’m stuck and flailing on that one. So hopefully I get something useful together soon.
thank you !!! i always hope that people tag me in their write-ups on this challenge - but they don't always! hehehe
i should just search the tag soon - and sit down and read them all :)
some are REALLY ambitious! hehehehe this challenge was difficult - but... important :)
oh gosh, I hope you don’t have any illusions of ambitious goals from me @dreemsteem. I have very humble and possibly underwhelming goals on steemit. I comment more than I post. In fact I struggle to post full stop! lol
hahahahahaha - commenting is an underappreciated and valuable aspect of steemit. it is one of the best pleasures for me on steemit!!!!!
(like now) you get to connect with people!!!
and i have no illusions of anyone's course that they chart ;)
it's whatever is applicable and appropriate for you!
I'll enjoy it because you took the time to do it! :)
Thanks! I'll keep an eye out for your answers to the challenge. :)
What a great idea! I'm going to have to write one of these :)
You should! It's useful for helping to think about what you want to do on Steemit. I'll keep an eye out for yours. :)
I have up-voted one of your comments as I think thats a cool idea also for posts out of the 7 day window!
Really amazing goals, I love what you’re laying out for yourself--and your vision to be able to support your community and family of folks. So rad. :)
Thank you!
This is interesting and although I just did my 6 month post it would be good to plan my next 6 months because I have not done it now.
Doooooooooo it!
Lol... Don't mind me, I really like planning things.
Bravo for your thinking and goal-setting on this one! I wish you the best of luck in achieving your dreams, AND for the PhD program, too! 😊
Thanks for stopping by, and for the well-wishes!
I love your goals and your priorities, you are well on your way to achieving them.
Thanks! Yep, I wanted to be sure I could get them done, and I think I did a good balance between being achievable and needing to stretch a bit to reach them. :)
I like this idea of getting out ones goals on steemit! Love your reason for the goal 1 . Platforms like this have a disproportionate effect on people in the third world in terms of possibility. Often thats seem as a negative and associated with spam but it's ultimately a positive as it helps to provide incentive for people with limited opportunity elsewhere while showcasing ideas and knowledge transfer to places which need it most.
I agree. I think one of the wonderful things about the internet is the interaction between people from vastly different places in one space. We don't know what we don't know, and the internet makes it easier to move outside our own experiences and view of the world to consider other perspectives and ideas. I love that.
Ohhhh I just got to drop 9 cents on your post hehehhee !!!! So you have past the hovering point of 15 cents! 😜
And yes indeed.... That dreemsteem... Hmmm she's a silly one but every once in a while she does something worthwhile 😂
LOVED your map!!!! Yesssss! And your goals are so well within your reach! I do not have a doubt that you will surpass them!
And oh my gosh. I LOVE commenting! I absolutely love it!!! It's what takes Steemit from a editorial piece into a dialogue!!! Writer meets reader and "shakes hands" in the comment section!!!! And normally when I go to an older post (past payout) I will give someone a tip... As a matter of fact. Hehehe allow me to demonstrate that for you since you just helped.me out immensely!!!! @tipu send tip please! :)
Now how did you help.me out? Well... I love sending tips!!! But sometimes I don't know if I've spent all the money in my tip jar hahhaa
Leaving a comment and then upvoting their reply.... Ummmmmm how could I have missed something so brilliant and yet so simple!?!? LOVE IT!!!!
I am so thrilled that you found this useful!!! I like lists too! And I like tracking progress as well!
So I hope that you do keep thinking of your set goals and if you blow past them.... Chart a new course for deeper waters!!! ♥️
See you Thursday?? (PYPT)
Thanks for stopping by! I put it on my calendar to do a follow-up post in 6 months—I'm gonna do it.
I actually just did that with someone's post, upvoting the author's reply because they were past payout. I don't remember how it occurred to me as a strategy, but I think it's a nice work-around for the short duration of the payout window. :D Thanks for the tip!
