It is true that to succeed we do not need a diploma but it is still a security. Personally I have a very small diploma not very useful and for me it is very hard to find work. And when I find these are always work poorly paid and very difficult. I would never advise my children not to study.
Neither would I advise any adult not to continuously study, @izbing nor to constantly upgrade their skills.
Especially, engineering, technical courses are already outdated before the students enter the class.
