The Golden Rule

"In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets" (mathew 7:12 NASB)

This passage is very well known in the Christian Church circles and in the secular world..

Whether you are a follower of Jesus or not, no doubt you would have heard this saying or something very similar, and no doubt the words ring true...it makes alot of sense and the world would be a brighter place if we could all manage to follow these words..

My sister called me last week very upset as her son has been playing up a bit lately and getting into trouble, she found text messages on his phone in which he had been bullying another boy from school, I called and had a chat to him and basically asked him how he would like it being on the receiving end of the bullying and told him to treat people how he would like to be treated..

This made me ask the question to myself and reflect on my own life..

Now mathew 7:12 is part of the be attitudes and Jesus is addressing believers and followers of Him.
As believers in Christ we have a responsibility to treat all people with love and respect, we are Gods mouth piece and examples here on earth, we should be living up to a standard to Gloryify God in all things we do...

Now reflecting on my past sittuations i like to think i treat everyone with love and respect, but if i am honest with my self that is not always true, if i have a run in on a job site with another trade and they get angry i straight away go into defensive and walk off muttering something like what is that idiots problem...

Even at home i can Tend to be sarcastic and not take my wife seriously at times...

All these things whether big or little are not treating people how i would like to be treated, and just another area we must strive to emulate Jesus to further Glorify God and be a living example of the way He has called us to follow..

It is not just what we say about our faith, but just important that we live it in our actions.

When we do fall short never end the day without asking for forgiveness and strength to overcome our weakness..

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 john 1 : 9
