RE: Former Addicts Helping the Community
I've seen churches refuse to feed the homeless unless they attend a service first, how do you feel about this?

I think the Church has the right to say that if you are going to use our service it is on ur terms just like any other organization. If someone cannot stomach a half hour sermon to have a free meal and access to resources then how desperate are they really? But that is just my opinion.
How do you expect someone will learn anything when they are hungry? Sounds like coercion to me, but then again I actually know what it feels like to go hungry.
I don't know, around here there is no shortage of places to get help with food. Again, I didn't see anything different that a business requiring a shirt and tie to get in. And, by the way, I was homeless living under the bridge and begging change for heroin for 7 years. I know what hungry is too.
Then how can you justify the practice of dragging out hunger for no reason? You don't think if you feed them and they leave before the service they will remember that christians helped them? It doesn't seem like charity when you have to pay for it first. How can you think they will pay any attention to the service when they may be about to faint?
If you're afraid they will leave and won't hear the message you could very well have the service at the cafeteria while they eat. But have them sit down to listen while they are hungry? Sorry dude, that just seems cruel to me.
Brother you act as though I run a mission or something. I do not. My opinion is that if your really that hungry your not going to have a problem waiting a half an hour, and if you don't then maybe you weren't that hungry. It sounds like you have a problem with Christians for some reason, I can assure you that most of us just want to help. I am not going to argue with you, I am sorry you had a bad experience, I hope you are able to forgive. Gog Bless!
