Mini Bible Study: Salt and Fire
What does it mean to be "Salt"
We have heard what Yeshua said when he calls His disciples "Salt"
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. Matthew 5:13
I've sometimes wondered... if we are to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1) and we are the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13), perhaps those in covenant with God are symbolized as the salt of the burnt offering:
And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt. Leviticus 2:13
Those out of covenant with God have "lost their saltiness", since they have broken the covenant with God. The covenant of salt forever.
All the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer unto the LORD, have I given thee, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee, by a statute for ever: it is a covenant of salt for ever before the LORD unto thee and to thy seed with thee. Numbers 18:19
Salted with Fire
We must have peace with one another if we are in covenant with God, since we shall ALL be salted with fire as a living sacrifice on the altar. Yeshua says to "Have salt in yourselves", that is the covenant of salt required for every sacrifice, including the burnt offering.
For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. Mark 9:49-50
Salt is Fire-Proof
It takes a high temperature (1500F) to melt salt - so essentially salt is fire-proof. If we are in covenant with God (the eternal salt of the covenant) then when we are tested by fire, we will not be destroyed if tested by fire. The salt will not burn, but will abide (remain), like our good works on the day of trial.
Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. 1 Corinthians 3:11-15
Calling upon the Name of YHVH
When that day arrives, we must call upon the NAME of YHVH
"The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes. "And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of YHVH Will be delivered; For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem There will be those who escape, As YHVH has said, Even among the survivors whom YHVH calls. Joel 2:31-32
When we call upon His Name (however we pronounce it), we are delivered. But are we salt? Do we have salt within us? Are we in covenant with God? Are we His people? Is He our God?
This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Hebrews 8:10
The Baptism of Fire
Those who call upon the Name of YHVH will be delivered and purified. We will be tested to see our works revealed by fire, we will be refined to see if the salt of the covenant is within us.
This third I will put into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say, 'They are my people,' and they will say, 'YHVH is our God.'" Zechariah 13:9
May we be among those who walk in the midst of the fire like Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. May the fourth man, Salvation, stand with us in the day of trial! May we be refined like silver and gold. May we Bless the Most High in the midst of our troubles.
Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. Daniel 3:25
Our Trial by Fire
Just as the three boys did not worship the statue, may we also walk in the midst of the fire and remain untouched by the flames, giving glory to the God with which we are in covenant with saying "He is our God".
And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their forehead or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years. Revelation 20:4
May our Savior see us as salt, unscathed by the scorching flames, rejoicing in our salvation, the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob. And in Yeshua, the Son of God, who in that day, to those who have withstood the flames will say:
"Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world." Matthew 25:34
Give Him all honor and glory. May we all Bless the Most High God and call upon the Name of Him who is able to save!
Come Master Yeshua, come quickly. Maranatha!

Thank you for this reminders. Christians are called to be Salt and Light.
Great post. I never knew that salt is that hard. I've never tried to melt salt though. God bless you for this post.
Molten salt can be used to generate electricity through fission. I wonder if there's a connection. @ironshield
Thought provoking! Thank you. Sheds a little more light on the offerings that all required salt. Blessings
Thank you. Bless the Most High! @ironshield
Awesome post brother.
Thanks dwells. It's a thought I've had for a while. @ironshield
A well thought out post, made me think of Revelation 14:12 "Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus."
May we all be able to do this until the end!
Amen! The Saints of God are in covenant with Him, they have not forsaken His commandments, they have not lost their saltiness. @ironshield
