Spiritually Minded, let your affections be for the things of the lord.

Paul in his writings to the Ephesian Church, instructs they should be followers of God as dear children. That word translated as “followers” actually means to “imitate” God. Meaning, Paul was instructing the brethren in Ephesus to emulate, reproduce the attributes and works of God as precious children.

If this were not possible, the Spirit would be remiss asking us to do the impossible. How does anyone reproduce the works of God? Through the power of the same spirit which is willing to fulfill the will and the manifestation of God through men.

Again, Paul writes in Rom 8:6;

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

So, being carnally minded leads to death; and being spiritually minded will lead to life and peace. The question then before us is thus - what does it mean to be spiritually minded. The Greek construction of the compound words ‘spiritually minded’ connotes to have a disposition of mind (will, intellect, and emotions) that has been framed into shape by the Holy Spirit.

It means to think and respond to circumstances exactly as God would. Remember, the instruction is to reproduce godly results, to emulate and do the works of God in the earth (let it be done in the earth, as it is in the Heavens). We must be spiritually minded to inhabit God, Just like Jesus did, he declared the father to the world and continues to do that through us that believe.

Rom 12:1;

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service or our reasonable act of worship.

The first step towards developing the much needed mindset is to present our bodies a living sacrifice to God which is being dead to the flesh and its desires, and fully alive unto God, through the regeneration by the spirit of truth.
