Are the fallen angels the only "sons of God?"

Recently, I began to see pride as something other than thinking of myself more highly than I ought, but rather thinking of myself outside of what the Bible says about me. In other words, holding my OPINION of who I was more highly than what the Word of God says about me.

So then, who was I and what was I? The Word says many things about who we really are. As my midnight pondering kept me from sleep, a common scripture kept coming to mind. 1Jn. 3:2 says, "Beloved, now are we the sons of God..."

Gen. 6:1-4 tells us that the sons of God took themselves wives from among men and from their union, giants (nephilim in Hebrew) were produced. The Jewish historian Josephus and the book of Enoch both elaborate on this, telling us that the “sons of God” were angels that rebelled against God. What followed was the corruption of all flesh, with the exception of Noah. Noah only was said to be perfect in his generations (DNA).

The book of Job tells us that Satan was among the sons of God (Job 1:6, 2,1) and that the sons of God were present when the foundations of the earth were created (Job 38:5-7).

Going with the understanding that the sons of God were angels/watchers/guardians which were eventually stripped of their power and a death sentence pronounced upon them by God (Psm.82), we see that somehow, they were able to set themselves up as gods. I myself seriously doubt that it was just because they were more intellectually advanced. They would also have been entrusted with more supernatural power, authority and responsibility than fallen man.

Later, that same power, authority, responsibility and trust were bestowed upon Jesus’ disciples, so much so that they declared that even the demons were subject to them. Then, Paul (Romans 8) and John (1John 3) passed on to us that WE are now the “sons of God.”

It looks like we’ve lost the meaning to our heritage and what we are here to accomplish. So queue the infighting, backbiting, trivial messages, etc. Will we ever get back to what we were apprehended for?
