DUTIES OF TRUE PROPHETS
Those who are called to be prophets in the church have special duties to perform. It is not everyone who prophesies that can perform all these roles but those who are called to be prophets do.
They confirm God's guidance (Acts 13:1-4).
They declare openly, by inspiration, words from God without fear of position (Acts 21:8-11).
They exhort, edify and comfort (1Corinthians 14:1-3).
They convict believers and turn them to Christ (1Corinthians 14:24-25; 2Kings 17:13)
There haven't been any prophets since the first century.
(1 Corinthians 12:28 NIV) And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.
There are no workers of miracles. There's no one with the power to heal. So why would there be prophets? We already have the Bible. There's no need for any further revelation. Anybody claiming to be a prophet always introduces heresies into the church.
