“O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger, Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure.”
Psalm 6:1 (NKJV)

When a relationship is cultivated with God, you have to work at the relationship.
If you disobeyed God, you erred in your walk with Him, He will chastise you.
God chastises those whom He loves: “MY SON, DO NOT DESPISE THE CHASTENING OF THE LORD, NOR BE DISCOURAGED WHEN YOU ARE REBUKED BY HIM; FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE CHASTENS, AND SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES" (Hebrews 12:5,6 NKJV).

“HAVE MERCY ON ME, O LORD, FOR I AM WEAK; O LORD, HEAL ME, FOR MY BONES ARE TROUBLED. MY SOUL ALSO IS GREATLY TROUBLED; BUT YOU, O LORD—HOW LONG?” (Psalm 6:2,3).
The Psalmist here was down to earth about his condition, he did tell God what he was going through, asking for His help.
God does want your relationship with Him to be cordial, Father and son or daughter relationship.
A relationship where you would be able to talk to Him intimately, pour our hearts to Him without any reservation.
For the relationship and fellowship between you and Him to be cordial, you have to walk in the light of His Word.

"RETURN, O LORD, DELIVER ME! OH, SAVE ME FOR YOUR MERCIES' SAKE! (Psalm 6:4).
If you erred as a believer and you did not repent of your sin, God might withdraw His Presence from you.
Sin would block your access to God!
David pleaded for God’s return, deliverance, and mercies.
God will permit unpalatable experiences if you derailed in your walk with Him.
Consequences of sin are usually grievous, thus it is always better not put your hand in any sin at all, than to do it and be asking for forgiveness.
God will forgive you if you genuinely repented of whatever sin you committed, however, the consequences of it might be there, lingered longer than expected (1 John 1:9).
God cannot but chastise whoever He loves, who derails.

"DEPART FROM ME, ALL YOU WORKERS OF INIQUITY; FOR THE LORD HAS HEARD THE VOICE OF MY WEEPING” (Psalm 6:8).
One of the key things you needed to do after God might have had a mercy on you is to put an end to certain relationships, such that are not helpful or beneficial to your Christian life.
When you disobeyed God, you put your hand in sin, the devil can take advantage of that to afflict you.
Workers of iniquity are the people you are relating with but having negative influence on your life, who are luring you to live contrary to the Word of God.

Note:
• If you walked with those who do not have heaven as their goal, you may find it difficult to please God and be His friend or confidant: "Adulterers and adulteresses! DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT FRIENDSHIP WITH THE WORLD IS ENMITY WITH GOD? WHOEVER THEREFORE WANTS TO BE A FRIEND OF THE WORLD MAKES HIMSELF AN ENEMY OF GOD" (James 4:4).
• If you continue to hang out with a set of wrong people, what they do will rub off on you and that will debar or hinder you to live right; a holy life or walk in the light of the Word of God.
• Besides, the devil, his demons and human agents may have access to your life and operate freely (Ephesians 4:27).
Sin attracts and opens the doors for the wicked one, the devil and his cohorts, to operate in your life.
If a believer is serving in the leadership, working in God's vineyard, and such is living in sin, he or she is endangering their lives.
The devil, the predator, prowls about seeking who he may devour (1 Peter 5:8).

"THE LORD HAS HEARD MY SUPPLICATION; THE LORD WILL RECEIVE MY PRAYER” (Psalm 6:9).
God is plenteous in mercy, if you derailed and genuinely repented, He will have mercy on you (1 John 1:9).
However, if you did go back into the sin again, it means you have despised His goodness, forbearance, and long-suffering—you have taken Him for granted (Romans 2:4; 2 Timothy 2:19).
Those who identify with Christ should depart from sin: “NEVERTHELESS THE SOLID FOUNDATION OF GOD STANDS, HAVING THIS SEALl: “THE LORD KNOWS THOSE WHO ARE HIS,” AND, “LET EVERYONE WHO NAMES THE NAME OF CHRIST DEPART FROM INIQUITY” (2 Timothy 2:19).
God will judge and reward everyone according to his or her deeds: “AND BEHOLD, I AM COMING QUICKLY, AND MY REWARD IS WITH ME, TO GIVE TO EVERY ONE ACCORDING TO HIS WORK” (Revelation 22:12).

God did not overlook in the past those who transgressed and disobeyed:
4 FOR IF GOD DID NOT SPARE THE ANGELS WHO SINNED, BUT CAST THEM DOWN TO HELL AND DELIVERED THEM INTO CHAINS OF DARKNESS, TO BE RESERVED FOR JUDGMENT; 5 AND DID NOT SPARE THE ANCIENT WORLD, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; 9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations AND TO RESERVE THE UNJUST UNDER PUNISHMENT FOR THE DAY OF JUDGMENT" (2 Peter 2:4,5,9).

God would equally not overlook or condone sin today; it is only those who come to Him in repentance sincerely through Jesus Christ.
He is a just God and not partial: “FOR IF THE WORD SPOKEN THROUGH ANGELS PROVED STEADFAST, AND EVERY TRANSGRESSION AND DISOBEDIENCE RECEIVED A JUST REWARD [retribution or penalty], HOW SHALL WE ESCAPE IF WE NEGLECT SO GREAT A SALVATION . . . (Hebrews 2:2,3).

7 THEREFORE, as the Holy Spirit says: “TODAY, IF YOU WILL HEAR HIS VOICE,
8 DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS IN THE REBELLION, IN THE DAY OF TRIAL IN THE WILDERNESS.”
Hebrews 3:7,8 (NKJV)

Maybe you are presently in a trap of sin!
• Let go of any sinful partner you are keeping.
• Pray and fast to regain the ground you have lost.
• Know your major weakness and be watchful about it, that you may not find yourself in the sin again.
• Confide in a minister, someone you relate with as your mentor or spiritual father, and let such pray for you. You might have been struggling to get out of the particular sin by yourself, but no success, thus you may need someone to help in prayer.
Know that, that sin which you find yourself in is spiritual, it would take God’s power, the anointing, to be delivered—yokes are broken by the anointing.

You will not fail in Jesus' name. Peace!
