Character defects are certainly worth watching out for, if our desire is to cultivate a deep relationship with the Holy spirit. Our intimacy with the Holy Spirit will no doubt be hindered of there are persistent character issues that we fail or neglect to deal with.
Someone who is quick tempered or self centered or dishonest cannot expect to continue to enjoy the companionship of the spirit because such attitude grieve Him.

A minister in Nigeria name Rev. Sam Adeyemi in one of his sermons recalled how he prayed in 1997 for God to Grant him a major breakthrough that will result in national explosion of his ministry. He said the Holy Spirit told him that it does not cost him anything to Grant his desire but he should first go and work on his character! The truth is, we can enjoy more of the Spirits grace if we work on our character.
Perhaps the best way to deal with character issues in our lives is to work on our capacity to love. The more we are able to love people the more refined our character becomes and of course, the more our relationship with the Holy Spirit is strengthened.
