Santa Claus made from scrap materials
Hello everyone
It's Christmas time and it will not be complete without Santa Claus. So I want to share to you on how I made this huge Santa Claus from scratch.
The materials
- old newspapers
- gawgaw/paste
- old boxes
- wires
- reinforcing bar
- glue stick/ glue gun
- cable ties
- old gloves
- paint
Process
I started on creating the main skeleton of Santa with the use of reinforcing bar and wires. I used the reinforcing bar for the main frame. I bent it to form the shape of santa, then I covered it with a lot of wires to fill the gaps in the frame. After that, I covered it with boxes to hide the wires and reinforcing bars. Thin boxes will be great for this one because you can easily bend it with the shape/curve you want.
*Covering the body and back part of Santa with boxes
*The whole body was finally covered. It's now time for the arms. By the way, I used cable ties to put these boxes. This will make sure the boxes will be intact and to prevent them from falling.
The arms and whole body were covered. I will now cover it with newspapers using gawgaw paste. I've put a lot of layers of newspapers to make it tough and hard. With this way, we can achieve the stone effect of our Santa. In other words, it will somehow look like it's made from stone/sculpture instead of papers. I cut the newspapers into my desired size and carefully applied it on the top of the boxes. Making sure that the surface will be smooth and no rough edges.
It's now covered with newspapers, but the head is still not covered with boxes. So I started working on it and also applied newspapers like what I did in the body part.
Time to dry it off
When the newspapers dried. I started on adding details like eyes, nose, cheeks, lips, beard, and moustache with the use of paper mache.
I used a piece of box as a support when I put the beard of Santa Claus
The next thing that I did was his belt and shoes.
And for the last step, I painted it and added its reading glasses made from wire. Then, I put my old gloves to complete the hands of Santa.
And it's done
Congratulations! @lavendero
