The object of focus I selected for this challenge is the beautiful potted Areca palm that sits beautifully at the entrance of our lodge at 1 Akinwale Street, off Abule Okuta Road, Bariga/Somolu, Lagos, Nigeria. A beautiful location for a beautiful potted Areca tree that helps it do its beautiful work of beatification.

Everyday we go about living our lives and we somehow forget the little and important details around our environment that adds beauty to it.

The reason I selected this Beautiful potted Areca palm is that it a very significant and important part of the beautiful and serene environment that I live in and I must say that it added to the beauty and serenity of this great residence.

Ever since I came to be a part of this beautiful and serene residence, this Areca palm has always been there. Infact I remembered vividly the first day I came to look for accommodation in this residence two years ago.

It was the first thing I noticed it as I walked in. It greeted me with a smile and a gentle sway that says you are welcome to this beautiful abode and it’s a place of beauty and I am here to add more beauty to your stay and that’s what it has done over the years.

Though then it was smalller than this but it’s a symbol of silent resilience as it has grown over the years while still humbling assuming its place and continued adding beauty to the environment in all its radiance and greeness.

On entrance it’s the first thing you meet, on exit you can’t miss it either. It’s always there to tell us welcome and goodbye as we move out for our day and come back. Even in cold and hot conditions, its beauty radiates and dominates and it doesn’t stop waving at us as we pass by.

The entrance of our residence will never be the same if it’s not in its place. Its presence lighten up the environment not to mention the cleansing work it contributes to the air.

I felt that sometimes it feels not seen and neglected because of the corner where it’s kept. Therefore to make it feel like a character, I walked up to it and poked it gently with a wooden stick and it was happy as it smiled back at me waving its beautiful leaves.

I could hear it saying oh someone finally noticed me and I said yes. I am here to admire you and to tell you that you are doing a great work making our environment beautiful. It felt so proud and seen finally.

I didn’t stop there, I took a bowl and went to the tap, filled it with water and came back to water it. I needed it to know that it is loved and appreciated and I want it to keep living and growing and keep beautifying our environment.

It received my water as it took it all in and I could hear it saying thank you as its leaves waved back at me again. I was glad that I could make my object of focus not only seen but also let it know that it’s very symbolic to us and we love it for the great job that it’s doing.

The story and feeling that I am expressing through my object of focus is that we all can make impact in our environment in our own little way. We should be diligent in doing what we are supposed to do even when we don’t feel seen. Our efforts are definitely been seen and the difference will always be clear in our absence. So we shouldn’t stop adding value no matter what. Just like how the beautiful Areca palm is doing.

Evaluation — CineAtlas 60 (Week 4: Object as Character)

Post: @alexanderpeace — "CineAtlas 60 | Week 4 - Object as Character | Akinwale, Bariga / Lagos State"

Evaluation Summary (Week 4)

Criteria (Rubric /10)ScoreShort Comments
1) Weekly rule respected (Object as Character + 20–60 sec + required links) / 32.7 / 3.0Speem.watch and YouTube links are present. SteemAtlas pin is included. The potted Areca palm is a clear and tangible object treated as the central subject throughout. Minor deduction as the video length could not be fully verified.
2) Story clarity & creativity / 21.9 / 2.0One of the most narrative-rich entries of the week. The palm is given a genuine personality it welcomes, waves, feels neglected, and responds to care. The watering scene adds a strong human-object interaction that brings real emotional meaning.
3) Video execution (framing, stability, focus, visual impact) / 21.5 / 2.0The object remains the consistent visual focus. The interaction with the stick and the watering scene are good cinematic moments. Slightly more varied framing and closer detail shots of the leaves would have elevated the visual impact.
4) SteemAtlas pin quality (relevant description + correct location) / 10.7 / 1.0Pin is present with coordinates. However the location is a private residential address, which raises a minor privacy concern. The description could also better explain why this specific spot gives cinematic meaning to the object.
5) Presentation (photos, clean structure) / 10.8 / 1.0Five photos included with captions. The written structure is clear and well-organised. Slight deduction as a formal information table is missing.
6) Engagement (Shot Breakdown comments on others) / 10.7 / 1.0Two comment links provided. Small deduction as breakdown depth is not confirmed within the post body.

Final Score: 8.3 / 10

General Comment

A genuinely warm and creative entry that understands the spirit of Object as Character very well. The Areca palm is not just filmed it is given a voice, a feeling, and a relationship with its environment. The watering scene is the emotional highlight of the film. The main areas for improvement are visual execution and the pin location privacy concern. Overall one of the more human and emotionally resonant entries of Week 4.
