SC-S30 | CineAtlas 60 Week 3 - Silent Film
Edited by Canva
Hello Steemians,
Welcome to Week 3 of CineAtlas 60, our filmmaking map challenge built on:
Speem.watch (video) + SteemAtlas (map pin).
In Week 1, you introduced your place with a One Take Intro.
In Week 2, you learned to tell a story using a 3-shot sequence.
Now we explore one of the most powerful storytelling tools in cinema history:
the silent film.
Before dialogue existed in movies, filmmakers used only images, movement, expressions, and atmosphere to tell stories.
This week, you will do the same.

Theme of the Week: Silent Film — “Story Without Words”
The title of Week 3 is “Silent Film”.
Your mission is to create a 20–60 second micro-film that tells a story without dialogue or spoken narration.
Instead of words, use:
- Visual storytelling
- Movement
- Facial expressions
- Objects
- Atmosphere
- Framing and composition
The viewer should understand the idea or emotion without needing to hear any voice.
You may include:
- ambient sound
- music
- subtitles or title cards (optional)
❌ No spoken dialogue or narration.

Mandatory Platforms / Video Requirement (Curation Note)
✅ Important Steemit curation requirement:
Since curation is done only on steemit.com, your video must be directly viewable on steemit.com to be counted for curation.
Therefore every entry must include:
- ✅ Speem.watch link (primary upload)
- ✅ A second link viewable on steemit.com (recommended: YouTube)
- ❌ IPFS-only links will not be accepted for curation

What Your Post Must Include
Every valid entry for Week 3 must contain four key elements:
a SteemAtlas pin, a silent micro-film, a short description, and weekly engagement.
1. SteemAtlas Pin – Your Filming Location
Open SteemAtlas and place a pin on your filming location (public / safe place).
In the pin description and your post, explain clearly:
- City + country
- What kind of place it is (street, park, beach, monument, market, etc.)
- Why this location fits the mood of your silent film
2. Micro-Film Video (20–60 seconds) – Silent Story
Create a 20–60 sec micro-film.
Week 3 rule:
No spoken dialogue or narration.
You may use:
- Visual actions
- Expressions
- Camera movement
- Background sound or music
- Title cards or subtitles (optional)
The story should still be understandable without words.
Your video must include:
- ✅ Speem.watch link
- ✅ YouTube (or any Steemit-embeddable player) link
3. Description – “What is the silent story?”
Write a short description explaining:
- What is happening in your silent film
- Why you chose this location
- What emotion or message you wanted to communicate visually
- How the viewer can understand the story without dialogue
Add at least 4 photos from the area to improve presentation.
4. Engagement Twist – Shot Breakdown Comments
Each participant must comment on at least two Week 3 entries with a Shot Breakdown:
- Confirm the weekly technique: Silent Film ✔
- Mention your favorite moment with a timestamp
- Give one constructive suggestion (framing, light, story clarity, rhythm)
Simple “nice video” comments do not count.

Good luck filmmakers, and welcome to Week 3 of CineAtlas 60: Silent Film.
— @kouba01

Good day sir @kouba01,
I just want to get a clarification on this.
From this, I was able to understand that we are to create a 20-60seconds visual story/silent film. I think this is the anchor of the challenge..A silent visual story.
what I saw was posts, which looked like a silent review of places like eateries and so on, which made me more confused on what I was to do, which was a visual story. I had to halt and ask so I will know if I can take part.
My entry is based on a particular location, an entry with sunrise followed by an indoor shot, which was still sitting in a building still in that location then ends with the environment. This holds a little story I wanted to show,. And it included shots from outside and inside but the same location.
So my question was are we reviewing a location, water side, mountains and so on. Or we are creating a visual story/silent film in a particular location?
I will be waiting for your reply, as I would love to know if I can take part.
