CineAtlas 60 | Week 4 - Object as Character | [ Rooftop Garden / Chittagong ]
SteemAtlas Pin – The Place Where Your Object “Lives”
I have selected a pomegranate from our rooftop garden as the object as a character. Within the entire garden, this is the only pomegranate tree, and this is the single fruit on the tree that has managed to survive and growing. There is no specific time required to see or touch it; it can be observed on the rooftop at any time.
The location for my film is my rooftop garden, where my object—the pomegranate—fits perfectly into the frame against a backside of an old, textured wall. The red color of the pomegranate creates a beautiful contrast against the color of the old bricks. Despite the sun and wind, it has sustained itself, which match with the real character of my story.
Micro-Film Video (20–60 seconds) – Object as Main Character
In my 57-second micro-film, I captured the entire video keeping the pomegranate as the main character. I started with a wide shot of the whole tree, including the textured wall in the background, then slowly moved the camera closer for a close-up shot of the pomegranate before gradually pulling back again.

Description – “Why this object?”
What object you chose:
For my micro-film, I chose a mature red pomegranate hanging from a tree in our rooftop garden as the lead character.
Why you selected it:
I selected it because its bright color makes it stand out beautifully amidst the entire garden. The pale leaves around it and the grey wall behind it make it bright even more, that's why the pomegranate to shine through everything. Amidst all these elements, it remains at the center and fits perfectly as the main character.
Why this location fits the object:
I believe this garden is the most suitable place for this pomegranate because it looks very vibrant against the old brick wall in the background. In this sunny weather, it has maintained its position and survival. The pomegranate has showing its existence in the adverse conditions and nature has linked it beautifully as a main character to the cinematic story.
What story, feeling, or message you wanted to express through it:
Through this pomegranate, I wanted to show that even in a bad environment, if one can endure with patience, one can live beautifully like this fruit. On this tree, only this single pomegranate has reached its full form and survived. Its ability to thrive amidst nature's harsh conditions sends a message that with self-belief, one can success just like this pomegranate.
How you tried to make the object feel like a character:
To show the pomegranate as a living character, I tried various techniques in the video. First, I took a wide shot of the entire tree to show the environment in which it is surviving. Then, I took a close-up shot where the color and texture of the pomegranate are visible, along with light reflections to suggest that it is alive. Finally, I captured its slight movements to show it enjoying life within its environment.
To capture this cinematic shoot, I selected and filmed the only red pomegranate on our rooftop tree as my character as an object. I tried to show how the pomegranate persists through nature's adverse conditions and blooms beautifully in the midst of everything.

General Comment
The strongest entry of this batch and one of the best of Week 4. The pomegranate is a perfect Object as Character choice singular, visually striking, and symbolically rich. The cinematic structure of the video is deliberate and well-executed, the written narrative is clear and meaningful, and the presentation is clean and precise. A near-exemplary entry that demonstrates exactly what the week's theme is asking for.
