Zootopia 2: not as interesting
I liked the first Zootopia. Not only for the humor but also for the interesting (and not so -in-your-face) messaging. As for the sequel, while interesting, it wasn't as captivating.
The fox and the rabbit duo are back, and as reckless as ever. After nearly crashing on a parade pursuing a suspect, they are demoted and, if they mess again, will be fired. They do find snake skin, which is a rarety since no reptiles has been seen in Zootopia for over 100 years. Especially after one killed (?) someone...
While there are interesting visual gags (Gnu Jersey) all through the movie, I can't say it captivated me as much. While not a repeat of the first movie, it does use a lot of the same tropes, which in retrospect can make it easier to know the culprit. Also, the "partner therapy" is too uneven. We know they are dysfunctional, but they only admit it at the very end through a lengthy trauma dump.
But kuddos on showing political corruption (it's not too obvious that it's anticapitalist), when the Lynx mob boss says that he manipulated the mayor.
In short, you won't miss much by not watching this movie. It looks a lot like its predecessor, and the gags aren't as inventive
Final rating: 3/5
