Massive Mall Fails to Overshadow Tiny Retail Stalls … Chiang Mai – CityScape Photography
These tiny, traditional shops fit together nicely on a narrow lane directly behind a huge mall.

Elvis and other attractions
The massive Kad Suan Kaew mall has a very imposing presence. Taken as a whole, the complex is close to double the size of the average mall in the US or Canada.
Most malls are not particularly appealing, but Kad Suan Kaew has at least a few attractions. The great food court, the weekly market out front, the “Elvis-style rock’n’roll” cover band of Filipino musicians that performs nightly.
Local attractions
But just outside the rear entrance to the mall is the real Thailand. This narrow lane directly behind the mall is line with a range of food stalls, offering everything from fresh fruit juices to rice or noodle dishes to spicy curries.
There’s even a little open-air bar that attracts a small crowd of locals each evening. Without relying on Elvis or any of the “attractions” of the grand mall. Location – Chiang Mai, on Google Maps This is my entry in @juliank’s CityScape Photography contest.
I've just been invited to visit a guy I grew up with who resides by the mountains in Chiang Mai. One day...perhaps.
Cool. Is he a westerner? Does he live up in the mountains, or just near them?

This year I am planning to try if the traveling lifestile fits me, becouse one of my lifetime dreams is to visit a Southeast Asian country. I am planning to do my little road trip in Europe for more than a week. I know that it is absolutely different from Asia, but this is the most I can do right now. Would you recommend Thailand for a "newbie traveler", and if yes, which part of it?
Ya, Thailand's good for a beginner. Most cities and coastal towns would present little difficulty. Many people speak a bit of English, so you could get around and get by. Once you get into the countryside or the smaller towns, you might have difficulty communicating.
In the Philippines, most people speak English quite well. Surprisingly, he same goes for Malaysia, where many people speak English as their second language. In Vietnam and Cambodia and Indonesia, you'll find many people who can speak basic English, so you can get around without much difficulty.
Whatever, they're all great places to visit. Hope you get there soon.
Interesting photos turned out. Especially if you summarize it with your description. Good luck to you and Love.
Thanks. Glad you like the text I add. I hope it makes the photos a bit more interesting.
