I wonder how much Al Gore's involvement in this issue created the partisan divide we see. If the issue was brought to the public's eye by an impartial messenger perhaps it wouldn't have become such a politicized issue. Then again it may have needed that controversial aspect of it to actually become a well known issue, or else it may have just simmered unseen for the majority of people.

great point! Speaking as an open minded but skeptical Conservative with Republican leanings, I have been put off by Al Gore on this topic. It seems to me that he has used this as an jump board to push his own special interests and agenda. We need to separate the money from the argument and do what is right for the future.

I have heard reasonable arguments that many of the studies that support climate change are funded by special interest groups that have much to gain by presenting a case for climate change. And if you are a researcher that presents research that is otherwise, you will most likely not get future grants/funding.
