Our obsession with cricket.
The Britishers left our country in 1947, but it was only their physical exit. They have had a great impact on society in various ways. They left behind both legacies and some negative impressions on the people of India. They had a deep impact on education and also on the extracurricular activities that people had back then. One of the significant contributions they made to our society was the introduction of cricket, and since then cricket has not just been a game but more like a religion. I don’t see any individual in my society who doesn’t care about the cricket matches going on worldwide, and it’s only because of the obsession with cricket that we all have. It’s in our nerves, and we can’t imagine our life without it. It doesn’t matter if we play cricket or not, but having knowledge of the sport and knowing about the matches going on is important for all of us. It is one of the simplest games because it doesn’t need much infrastructure. It only needs a bat, a ball, and a flat ground anywhere, and that’s why it’s more appealing.
Since my childhood, I have been playing cricket, and so have my friends. We used to play no matter what. It was our routine to come back from school, drop our bags at home, and leave with our bat and ball. We have fun memories of those days. I still remember we didn’t care about the weather—whether it was raining, snowing, or bright sunny days—we used to play cricket. In the snowy winter days, we used to take shovels with us to remove snow from the patch where we played. It was on the outskirts of the village, and we used to call it Melbourne. The patch was right beside the stream flowing through the village.
Now, with the advancement of time and technology and with the development of rural areas, new playgrounds have been developed, and people don’t need to go to these stream banks anymore. They now have proper facilities to play cricket. But still, our childhood feels more exciting than theirs. We had an obsession with playing cricket, and we still have it. In fact, we don’t miss any chance of playing even now.
The same passion now runs through the children of the valley. They bear the same characteristics. I’ve been seeing my cousins play cricket ever since they came here. They care about other games, but they play cricket from morning till evening. They have already lost a couple of balls, but still they don’t back away from the game. Since they are enjoying their childhood, we don’t have any right to hold them back unless it becomes harmful for them. The obsession with this game is almost genetic here, and we can’t help it. Some things hardly change, and our obsession with cricket is one of them.
Thank you for going through my post. Have a great time ahead.
