Nobel Prize Laurette Liu Xiaobo Dies at the Hands of Chinese Communists

in #cn7 years ago

Liu Xiaobo is most widely remembered outside of China from the empty chair placed for him when awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize in abstentia.

After Liu's passing last week, much has been written about his life and accomplishments. For example, I recommend "The Passion of Liu Xiaobo" by his translator Perry Link.

Here I offer translations of poetry offered in honor of Liu Xiaobo.

From Twitter:

如遥望见在静默的河流上,你漂向彼岸,向死而生。🙏

Translated:

Observing a moment of silence above the distant river
You drift toward the transcendent shore
Facing death yet live🙏

Here are Liu Xiaobo's final words - to his wife - translated:

One bird after another passes through my vision. After capturing my aesthetics, will take a life's journey through hers.

And this from survivor of the Tiananmen Massacre, Wang Dan:

在未来关于刘晓波的传说中,他对刘霞的爱,将成为一个传奇,感动无数向往爱情的人。

Translated:

Future parables about Liu Xiaobo's love for Liu Xia shall become Valentine martyr legends for countless lovers in yearning.
